So far we’ve traced back to a direct line to Jamestown VA from Wales. After that it gets really difficult. Like you say, it’s pretty fascinating to trace your family back. I give my dad all the credit in the world for putting the time into this research. He even researched my mom’s family back to 1720’s Louisiana German Coast from Alsace-Lorraine. He apparently came over on one of first boats of German settlers by John Law

Either everyone is responsible for the sins of their ancestors or no one is.

And how far back does the punishment for generational sin go?

All of that is true, and valid points, much more so than the bemoaning of slavery arguments. Jim Crow really did hurt this whole country. It did more to create two different American cultures, and kept black people far behind as a result. it never should have been so, but it’s our reality, and to keep it that way though, I’ll say that the government and politicians especially who get their power from the oppressed have no desire to see them escape their economic conditions, because doing so would eliminate their control over them for political power. And so, it continues. It’s just economics that is used to keep them segregated rather than actual laws on the books. Nobody;s done this better perhaps than places like Chicago. They’ve managed to find a way to keep them segregated without looking like heels in doing so. In the 21st century south however, that’s not most of our realities. That’s the ironic part of all this. The land of Jim Crow has become more diverse and segregated than the enlightened North.
