As far as tax credits go, O&G industry receives a lot of tax credits and tax money in general. So let’s not act like gas is clear of tax use.

That’s a fair comment, but I doubt either of us have educated numbers on tax breaks and subsidies between the two industries. But there is a currently proposed $174B in new EV subsidies.

I put a deposit down for one. I'll decide later if I'll keep it once more firm details come out.

I'll plan to get the extended range. Reportedly range estimate is with a 1,000lb payload. Some are predicting more of about 450mile range or so. In any case, I don't ever drive that far and we'll have an alternative vehicle for road trips if needed.

Wait a minute. Are you saying this F-150 Lightning has a 80-100 mile range at half toe capacity?!? And people are still buying it?!?

300 mile range doesn't do it for me. When they get to 800+ I may be interested.

And people need to realize that this is probably at 55mph or whatever mileage estimates are typically based on.

The power required to overcome drag at 65mph is over 1.5x that at 55mph.

I’ve said before the f150 lightning is probably a good EV if you want a EV.

It’s a bad EV if you want a truck.

EV tech isn’t to the point it can make a viable duty truck, yet.

Need solid state batteries to take off.

If you were half as smart as you pretend you are here, you’d recommend a portable generator mod that will allow you to charge remotely.

Any generator and it’s fuel that would be practical to haul in the F150 would just add weight further reducing range, and would still take days to recharge the truck battery. Fast charging stations that charge in 7-8 hours require 240 volt 50 amp circuits to supply them. When charging from a small portable generator that can supply only 120 volts at 20-25 amps the charge time becomes days not hours.

The 36 gallon tank gets like ~700 miles on a tank with a stock supercrew fx4. 300 is less than the smaller tank options

More like < 600 miles at least that’s been my experience.

Mine stock was roughly 715-720 miles until empty and now its still 600-615 miles until empty with 35's and a lift. The 5.0L atleast, idk about ecoboosts, those could be different.

ETA: obviously depending on how you drive though, if you drive particularly fast or accelerate obnoxiously its gonna go down quicker than normal.

I’ve worked on both sides of this. Off shore o&g, land based shale frac/horizontals, mid stream, solar, wind, NG LDC, etc. o&g subsidies dwarf anything renewables have ever gotten. We just don’t see it because it buried in the companies balance sheets in tax reductions, depreciation schedules, etc. Most of the renewable subsidization is consumer facing and is meant to bring in early adaptors to support investment.

Yeah frick that, that truck would always be on a charger.
That's literally what the manual tells you to do with an EV, charge every night.

Again, it's really not that difficult to grasp. If your daily drive/commute is 200-300+ miles or if you do a lot of long trips, an EV may not be best for you. A shite ton of people really don't have a routine like that, so 230 miles is more than enough 99% of the time.

Another thing already pointed out in this thread, but the typical daily commute driver who isn't driving long distances, that person is likely going to spend more time at the pump tanking up in a given year than they would needing to sit and wait for a charge.

Take a toad trip where you have to put some miles on ,and it would be a real pain in the arse
I do, and it's not in my car.

As has been pointed out numerous times in this thread and again, an EV may not be for everyone but just because you may be a guy who takes a road trip going from point A to point B as fast as you possibly can with no stops other than 5 minutes for gas and back on the road does not mean that is how everyone travels.

I take a yearly vacation to the same spot with my wife and kids(under 10) and on the 10+ hour drive we'll always have to make multiple stops, including 1 for lunch. The trip in the EV took us all of 30 minutes longer than it did the 1 year we went in the gas vehicle. Difference of 10.5 to 11 hours, not exactly some huge difference like people seem to think it would be, adding "hours" to a long trip.

I just went on a 5 hour road trip for work 2 weeks ago. I stopped to charge twice, once was 11 minutes and the 2nd time 6 minutes. Given the time of the trip, I was always going to stop to grab dinner, so that would have taken 5-10 minutes regardless, so I added about a whole 8 minutes to that trip having to charge.

quote:

,but having the capability when you need it is better than oh you only have this range and it is multiple hours to charge
And therein lies the issue, you think it takes "multiple hours" to charge. The only time it'll ever take that long is charging from home, and since I'm charging overnight, I have all the time in the world for it to charge, and again, rarely am I driving so much that I'm getting home and needing hours to charge 200 miles or more.

You can get a full charge from a 120v inverter generator in about a day, but the poster asked what he could do if he wanted to go further. Not get a full charge. He should be able to get 15 or so miles per one gallon of fuel.
