Passing at 37 is young and I know your situation. Mine died when he had just turned 35 and I was 8 at the time.

Here's the thing about cancer. Most people don't know they have it until it gets a good hold on their health.

I'm 66 and have seen more folks than I care to think about die from this disease. For many folks it goes like this, they go see a Dr. for some aches and pains and they come back with a cancer diagnosis.

Lung cancer is especially bad since so many people don't get diagnosed with it until it's far along in progression and there's not much they can do about it. My brother-in-law, age 51, got diagnosed with lung cancer in the spring of 2011 and died the Sunday after Thanksgiving the same year.

He fell off a ladder at work and went to get x-rayed for possible broken ribs and they found a couple tumors in his lungs, one the size of a plum.

While he's concerned about what his passing would mean for his loved ones, Trebek said he's not afraid of what lies ahead. "I'm 79 years old," he said. "I've had one hell of a good life."

That's not a good sign.

Sounds like he got some really ominous news from the doc.

He got that news when told he had Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer. The man's made a life of dealing with facts, so I think he's just being a realist about his situation and turning as positive a light on it as he can.

I was talking about his treatment plan.

Pancreatic cancer is no joke. I'm extremely surprised he has made it this long.

Its horrible. I'm hoping we start seeing more success with the clinical trials for possible cures/raising prognosis outcomes. Being able to detect the cancer early is the bigger issue.

A family friend of ours was able to beat it, but mainly due to luck. She had went in for surgery for something else when they had discovered it in stage 1. She was able to get to treated it surgically. 15 years later still going strong

As bad as it sounds this is why I hate the “I’m cancer free” statements

Because a lot of the time it’s coming back

At least he is 79

Maybe this would help? Give him some of that medical marijuana and let him puff away. A nice bong would be helpful.

Everybody gonna die sooner or later even Alex Trebek.

My cousin died after two operations. I believe he lived five years, from the first diagnosis.

He was in bad shape at the end, as metastisis was rampant.

Pancreatic cancer has been cured in the lab on test animals by a Spanish specialist and his team, but purportedly will take five years to get to the human treatment market.

They are having some success with trials with animals and have been experimenting with the biochemical pathway of pancreatic cancer cells. They have identified some key proteins and enzymes that need to be inhibited to stop the process but getting it to be effective in humans is challenging. The genetic changes in pancreatic cancer is difficult to target with drugs which makes it difficult to treat.
