How will he appeal refusing to defend himself?

You know they also sued for intentional infliction of emotional distress right?

So you're saying it's cool because had it been true that it was a hoax they would be better off since their kid is alive?

No, what I’m saying is that even though Jones claims are in fact False, that doesn’t translate into monetary damages because Jones claims haven’t harmed their reputation in a way that results in financial harm to them.

Have they lost their jobs? Been sued because if it and had judgements rendered? What?

I agree 100% that Alex Jones is a reprehensible man for what he did, but I do NOT believe that his speech rises to the level of legal defamation.

Edit: and with respect to their reputation: how has their reputation been harmed ? No one but a few nuts believed him. Is their esteem Among these nuts the reason for judgment when 99.999% of the real world knows it’s false?

It’s my understanding that’s just compensatory damages and a jury will now decide the punitive amount he’ll have to pay. So he will very likely end up paying quite a bit more.

Correct the punitive phase started today. The plaintiffs will be able to bring evidence of Jone's and Free Speech Systems' net worth which is said to be in the 270 million range.

To a degree, the OP buried the lead because if the jury gives punitives on a 270 million valuation $4mm is likely to be a drop in the bucket.

Jone's attorney Reynal has done about as sloppy of a job in defense as I have ever seen. Getting defaulted on failure to comply with discovery then accidentally sending plaintiff's counsel the data from his phone and the way that was subsequently handled is laughable.

I know money is a great incentive, but who would really want to defend Alex Jones here?

Overpaying for shitty representation seems just if you ask me.

I’m not so sure that his attorney “accidentally” sent those text messages. He had, what, 10 days to fix that and chose not to.

I forgot Remington paid a huge settlement due to type of firearm used at Sandy Hook. Media is tying Trump to Alex given Jones’ recent sitch. What a farce. Meanwhile all you defense/PI attorney types wish you had a huge settlement, the source of which matters not.

I don't think Alex Jones can afford to add a single additional day in court at this point, based on self inflicted damage he's accrued so far.

I give you credit for the attempt. But it's ALL still far to vague and unverifiable a claim.

If it was so vague and unverifiable Jones should have followed the court's orders and not been defaulted. He did this to himself.

Oh and just wait till the jury drops the punitive damages later today.

I would like to know the real story, as of now I can't see the angle (the way it played out) for either the attorney or Jones.

The story goes Reynal didn't have access to that phone dump until a couple of weeks ago when he was made co-counsel in the CT case. There are proper and smart ways to handle it from there but he didn't seem to do any of them. Jones also seemed blindsided with it on X which left me nonplussed because a witness like Jones who is used to being in control normally wilts (which he did) when he loses control. Jones is the kind of witness you need to spend days prepping and hammering into submission and he appeared to not have been prepped at all, however, some clients like him refuse to do proper prep work because they think they know better and/or their time is too valuable.

ETA I should add Reynal isn't the picture of decorum himself:
