Never been to an Aldi — but I remember my grandmother having to do this at the Superstore the one time we went. That must have been 30 years ago now. Still stands out in my memory.

Publix has turned into an overpriced joke of a store.

They seem to still have more stores than not that are actually well run. Kroger and Rouses are hit or miss. Mostly miss unfortunately.

I guess that's the appeal of Publix. I did find their prices high.

Winn Dixie always offers the highest value with beef. They have the highest quality, and they have the best specials.

Lived so close I'd get groceries during Saints halftime. Was awesome.

I wonder if they will retire the "Win-Win Twins"?

I'd rather they were shot into the sun, but retirement will work as well.

This is interesting. These are two completely different concepts. I don't see how they could turn any W/D stores into Aldi stores as the footprint and store makeup is completely different.

Someone said buy them for their distribution network... but why would Aldi need a distribution network that carries 20-30 times, if not more, varities of products than Aldi currently does?

I'm not surprise W/D is changing hands, but I am very surprised it's Aldi.

Maybe they will just run it as a seperate chain.

It’s a bummer. Winn Dixie always offers the highest value with beef. They have the highest quality, and they have the best specials. I’d be surprised, if that would remain the case going forward.
Agreed.

I will say not all Winn Dixie’s are equal, but the good ones are really good. I used to go to the Destrehan Winn Dixie prior to Ida and it was top notch across the board… quality product, employees, everything. I imagine it still is, but I haven’t been.

They actually have a similar model to W/D, but they execute it better.

Have everyday high prices, but good prices on sales / app coupons. When people come into the stores for the sales, hope they buy some of the non-sale high priced items as well.

Publix to me has a better deli and fresh food selection than W/D does.

But you have to be willing to srtick to their sales. Which means you need to go to another store for the non-sale items.

I went in a Winn Dixie a couple of days ago and a gallon of the same brand of milk was $2 higher than the store (Cost Plus) that I normally buy it from.

I figured Publix or Kroger would be more likely to make something like that work.

Why would anyone besides a bargain brand want a bunch of 3rd world economy assets?

What Baton Rouge needs another of more than ALDI is a Trader Joes which is owned by the same company. I don't like shopping there, but clearly you people do because the one on Perkins is stupid busy most of the time and parking is absolute bitch.
I like some of their products but everyone is too damn nice. I don't need to be interrogated by their hippy clerks, just let me check out and leave.

Oddly has a lot of stuff that the Rouses closer to my house does not. I suppose Rouses is better for Louisiana products.

Aldi is very overrated. WD had a good run, as said before, they usually had the best deals on quality beef.

They may offer a great value, but damn their meat quality has gone seriously downhill, it is NOT high quality

I have been to one in awhile but I think that is across the board now. HEB has shite for beef here in TX and it is all insanely expensive.

Thankfully I have two freezers of wild game we are working through so haven't bought beef in over a year.

Damn it.. I get the Cola Caffeine free for my mixer with rum.. The last 3 weeks it has been 2 for 1.. Now I know why..
Winn Dixie has decent sales on junk food, when I have a taste for it... You just have to put some time into knowing what prices are good and what is a rip off. Sausage is a rip off but you can find some decent prices on their meat(s). Be watchful for their 2 for 1 because they raise the normal price for the sale. I just hope they don't change up too much and keep the employees, some of them do a great job.

I haven't been to a Rouse's in a long time. They have just gone up too much on their prices. More than just inflation rise.

I would rather Rouses buy WD. I have one 1/2 mile from my house and I will glady drive the 3.5 miles to publix to keep from going in that horrible store.
