My homeowners insurer offers a yearly discount that about equals the yearly fee for the alarm monitoring.

Youre cancelling and still want the discount?

Sounds like you'll tell them that you will still cancel them and go to a competitor just because they wanted to burn you.

How do they know who carries your homeowner insurance? If they don’t know they are probably bluffing.

You should think about what you are doing, because if you intend to cancel monitoring, but keep the discount, you are stealing.

If you have an insurance claim that involves so wine breaking in to your house, your insurance company will reach out to the alarm company to see if you activate the alarm, so the insurance company will find out eventually and deny your claim and possibly demand you return the discount

They are lying. How would they know who your insured is?

This sounds like BS to me. I canceled my monitoring several years ago and never heard anything about it. How do they know what company you are insured with anyway? It's none of their business.

I would tell them that is some useful feedback to report on them in social media and on their website.

Your insurance rates will go up every year anyways with the same insurer unless there is some chargeable item that expires from the record. If you really like your agent, best practice is to keep with with them for 3 years or so, then go park it somewhere else for 6 months, then shop it again. The prices update every few months.

Also, when you're quoting, make sure they run it with each spouse as the PNI. Sometimes it amounts to a few hundred difference.

People probably shouldn't be married to insurance companies that long, but they absolutely should know how their insurere handles claims.

This is all a scam in my eyes. Does anyone have an info as to whether alarm companies actually notify insurers of cancellations? Do insurers actually do anything about it?

You’re right. It is a scam... from your end. If you have an alarm system it makes the likelihood of a loss from their end to be much smaller. That’s why they give you a discount. So from someone in the insurance industry.

If this is the case then I would tell the alarm company to GTH
