BP did a lot of damage and should pay, but all of these gulf coast states and communities raped that company and used that money for a lot of BS. They should be ashamed.

This should not surprise anyone remotely familiar with politics in Alabama.

Oh come on they were only married for 50 years with 4 sons named after 5 books of the Bible; Paul, John Mark, Luke, and Matthew. I'm sure the hoe was worth losing all that.

This whole deal was destined for disaster from the start.

In order to get a guarantee that the money from the BP Oil Spill would be sent to the Gulf States, the RESTORE Act had to be passed in 2012.

In order to pass the RESTORE Act, Louisiana had to get MS, AL, TX and FL's congressional delegations on board, to create a voting/influence block in Congress to get oil spill money actually sent to the states affected by the spill. It would have been a hard sell otherwise, because any time a legislature sees a potential source for pork barrel funding, they are going to seize it.

The bill is passed, and guess what... the money is split among the five states. Now, ask yourself a few questions.

- Why are Florida and Texas seeing any of this money? (I know why... they're the political heavy-hitters in this deal).

- If Mississippi and Alabama were so affected by the spill, why do they talk about restoring the Governor's mansion and building convention centers with the money from the spill?

- Despite the obvious damage to the coastline done by the spill, why did Louisiana have to jump through so many hoops to even see money it should be awarded for the damages?

The political lesson to take away from this fiasco is 1. Louisiana has ZERO stick in Congress (which is no surprise to anyone, really) and 2. The rest of the country gives ZERO frickS about our coastal restoration problem. Florida would not have this problem restoring the Everglades. Only we do, and it's because we can't communicate the problem to the rest of the country effectively, and the rest of the country/Congress only cares about their share.

If we want to restore the coast, Louisiana can't depend on our fellow states to help us out. We have to lead the charge, in planning, and in acquiring funding, on our own.

The RESTORE Act should have been a slam dunk for Louisiana. Instead, it's like going 1 for 2 from the free throw line.

As my buddy says: Politicians spend like drunk crack dealers on a weekend bender. No thought to tomorrow whatsoever.

Politicians love the discord between parties. We no longer hold our own politicians to any standard. We are willing to put up with anything just as long as our side wins.

They know that and take full advantage.

It was actually a bit refreshing to see JBE win. Appears some people were willing to lose rather than vote for someone they felt was repugnant.

That election was the exception, not the rule.

Don't think Louisiana has a governor mansion anymore.

If we do, I don't think Jindels spent more than a few nights in the last year.

No real heavy hitters, just a much larger delegation in both of these states.

The third most powerful member of Congress, as made famous by House of Cards, is the Majority Whip. Want to take a guess at who that may be?

Ours was rife with fraud also. If you felt like getting free money and lived in South LA, you could get it regardless of your occupation. I know a framer that got $21k because he said the spill reduced other people's income, which reduced his

No doubt. I saw some of the claims around Auburn and the dollar amounts are absolutely unreal.
