Elba High football coach Pate Harrison had been placed on administrative leave – essentially a suspension with pay – and assistant coach Glenn Johnson will lead the team in Friday’s game against Florala.

quote:

“In 14 years of coaching I have never truly lost my cool until my own child told me to shut up,” the Eagle quoted Harrison as writing. “That is no excuse for me snatching him up, and I apologize to everyone who was there to witness this event. I am truly sorry that my actions has put the team in a bind and the extra work on the coaches. The program is bigger than any one person and I know the team will continue to be successful.”

That'll show him. Sounds more like a Louisiana public schools way of handling things. And they wonder why they have no money

What does that mean? So he essentially beat his kid's arse?

What does “snatching up” mean? Is it sexual?

I assumed it mean just grabbing him by the jersey in a rough manner. Like when you grab someone by their shirt at each shoulder/chest.

Basically not that big a deal imo. Deserved worse if the kid told his dad to shut up.

Maybe the schools way of doing something about it, without actually doing anything.

My son is 5, he already knows in 13 years we gonna square off. I’m about to start working out in 8-9 years

I just can’t understand the hullabaloo surrounding this. Seems like a rather innocuous interaction between a father and son. I’ve had coaches grab and redirect me much rougher than that.

Personal foul. Parenting. 5 years probation and a mandated apology to all of the pussies who were offended by someone actually trying to teach their child to not be a shithead.

i remember my dad crying with anger when i didn't prepare to make the JV baseball team. he told me if i didn't make the team, he was gonna beat my arse. and not with a belt, but with his fists.

needless to say, i made the JV baseball team. he made me call him during school hours to let him know i made it or not. he was in construction so all his work buddies were listening in and laughing at me.

I used to get my facemask snatched up and held 1/2" from my Pops face when really screwing up something on a play in practice. He was a coach and was doing his job, nothing else.
what a pussified fricking world we live in theses days

I was playing in a Little League game when I was 11. My dad started trying to coach me while I was on deck. I turned and told him to "just shut up and let me play". Bad decision on my part.
