MOBILE COUNTY, AL (WALA) - An inmate who caused a Mobile County woman to lose her leg after he shot her has escaped for the second time in three years.
David Curtis Wood, 61, took off from a prison in northern Alabama that is for elderly and sick prisoners. Wood was serving a life sentence for the violent burglary that happened back in 1994.
Wood was convicted of breaking into his ex-wife's Irvington home and shooting her in the leg with a shotgun. The injuries were so bad that her leg was amputated.
In an interview with FOX10 News in 2015, the woman said, "I got out of bed and ran and he grabbed me by the hair and stuck a shotgun to my leg, blew my leg off and then he busted me in the top of the head when I was screaming."
Wood was being held in the Camden Work Release Center when he escaped on June 23, 2015. He was on the run for more than six months and was spotted in Mobile County before he was tracked down and arrested by U.S. Marshals at a homeless shelter in Biloxi. Investigators said that was the third time Wood escaped from custody.
In his latest escape, Wood slipped away from the Hamilton Aged & Infirmed Center in Marion County wearing only his state-issued boxer shorts. Corrections officers said he was last seen around 8:15 a.m. on Monday, May 21.
Anyone with information about David Curtis Wood is asked to call police right away.

Having been to Irvington, Alabama I think I would honestly rather just be in jail. Not sure why he's so keen on escaping.

He should go to walmart and blend in with all the other trashy people.

If I'm serving a life sentence, I'm doing the same thing

Meh that’s not escaping. That’s just walking off the job.
And the article states he’s escaped twice. Where’d you get four times from?

He's escaped twice in 3 years. 4 times overall.

Plus he's not in work release. That was a previous escape.

What a moron. I would have been in Mexico within 3 days never to be seen or heard from again. especially with a life sentence. I'd probably attempt escape/border runs weekly if I was sentenced to life in prison. What do you have to lose.

They’ve got a name for people like you. That name is called “recidivism.”
Repeat offender!
Not a pretty name, is it?
H.I.: No, sir. That’s one bonehead name, but that ain’t me any more.
You’re not just telling us what we want to hear?
H.I.: No, sir, no way.
‘Cause we just want to hear the truth.
H.I.: Well, then I guess I am telling you what you want to hear.
Boy, didn’t we just tell you not to do that?
H.I.: Yes, sir.
Okay, then.

If Wood has demonstrated one thing over the span of his prison career, it's that he don't play that shite.
