So in that case, bakers have the right to refuse to make a cake for tgays?
They did and I don't know why everybody was up in arms about it. Don't make someone do anything they want to do. Let the market take care of itself. Someone would have gladly baked a cake for the gay couple. Let people be. As long as they aren't physically harming you or financially harming you, let it be.

However, as always, if they denied someone that planned to go to a pride parade................we all know the story.

A better example would be a BLM rally....lgbt is just a group of people who love the same sex. There is no potential bad publicity with them. So therefore it would never happen.

In this case, AirBnB is financially harming their customers.

You mean the renters? How do you know if they want those people in their place... People have morals and don't want a dollar from you just because you offered it to them.

I'm curious about you posters in this thread that think Airbnb is justified in cancelling the reservation, and also think the christian bakery should be forced to bake a cake for a gay couple resolve those two completely polar opposite positions in your heads?

Agreed. I'm 10000000% for discrimination but it has to be across the board. Culture and economic/market forces will shake out the weak hands. Don't like that I won't bake you a gay wedding cake? F*ck off. Don't allow Christians in your hotel? F*ck off.

People just want to make a name for themselves, get their 100k settlement and fade back into being a wallflower. Sad state of affairs.

They actually aren't. They aren't taking money from them or depriving them the opportunity to make or earn money. They were actually refusing their money for a service/product. Those same customers could have simply went somewhere else.

Pretty sure he's talking about the property owners that now don't have their property rented.

I thought he was still talking about the bakery. Even in that case that same property owner could advertise on craiglist or backpage. They didn't take away the market from the property owners.

ETA: I read the initial response to what I replied to way to fast and totally didn't see him clearly say Airbnb

They most certainly took money right out of the property owners' pockets. Not really sure how you can say otherwise.

The property owner also can advertise on different platforms as well. They aren't completely depriving them of the opportunity to make money.

Why can't you just admit they took money out of their pockets?

The fact that the property owners may be able to make it up is irrelevant.

Not if you have conservative Christian values and try to refuse to be a part of the gay wedding industry.

I was speaking about the people who are attending the rally and rented a place on AirBnB..these people may be travelling on flights and now are going to have to pay more for last minute accommodations.

But the lessors are losing money as well.

The difference being, bakers are being labeled homophobes, bigots and having their names dragged through the mud by protesters. Even being taken to court.

I doubt anyone is going to be doing this to ABNB

This tells me we're doing something right.

Is this Airbnb's corporate office canceling bookings or is it the owners themselves doing so?

According to the pics in the OP, it was cancelled using AirBnb email. So whether it was the owners or the Corporation, it's all behind AirBnb correspondence.

If you were fine with religious bakers denying a gay couple a wedding cake, then you should be fine with this. End of story.

Except, of course, for the blatant double standard in the treatment of each group.

Y'all are actually defending white supremacist groups?

not that this is actually a (direct) First Amendment issue, but the very concept of free speech protection is grounded in things that offend common sensibilities.

laws follow culture, and if our culture no longer values the right of offensive people to express themselves in patently offensive manners, then the law will follow suit.

so, ironically, your post is rooted in a form of fascism.
