Why does VA give money to veterans for children with certain defects if exposed to agent orange?

My dad was drafted into it. He saw his fair share of the shitte. He died at 38 from a heart attack. I was 7. I think his health issues were more of a result of the late 70’s / 80’s nose candy issue with veterans. I remember going to his VFW bingo hall and I was the only sober person in the room…and yet I still chose to serve when I was of age.

Didn't personally know him, but Elmo Zumwalt was in charge of all Naval Operations in Viet Nam and later became CNO. His son was a LT in the brownwater navy.

Zumwalt's son died in the 80's at about 40, almost surely from Agent Orange exposure. His son, Adm Zumwalt's grandson, suffered from birth defects.

Agent Orange was some bad shite.

There is a guy I know because my parents know him who evidently has had health problems since returning from Vietnam. He is in his late 70s and while I don't know all of the things he has had wrong with him, I know he has had his intestines either removed or some of it removed... If I am not mistaken he did have cancer at some point, but because he is always having other issues, they caught it early.

I know someone who is in the same hunting camp as he is and one time something happened and they had to bring him where they dock at and an ambulance picked him up, It actually seems like its almost a miracle he is still alive.

Yes, and as I remember, Dave's brother died in 1982. At least I think that is right. The VA was stonewalling Agent Orange cases like the CIA back then.

Not according to go to hell ole miss - it has no bearing on children or birth defects. LOL

Yes. My grand father was a green beret, would jump in right after they dropped AO.

Yes. Bragg was home to the 82nd Airborne and Green Berets, we saw a lot of them. A lot doesn't mean thousands, maybe 40-50 while I was there. They were big on talking them into getting out on any kind of medical they could dream up when they got sick, especially when more than a few were really sick. It was like a conspiracy or something.

My dad was 101st airborne. He was near DMZ zone. He would wake up screaming and hollering all hours of the night. Nightmares I guess. He wouldn’t talk about it at all.

There is no evidence that dioxins can mutate DNA sequences. If your sister and you were rats and had birth defects, there is a small chance that was related.

I know I should stay out of this. I am not a doctor and only know what I saw firsthand while working at Womack Army Hospital. These guys were really sick. They suffered both physical and mental degeneration. To say a chemical that could cause those types of body damage (mantal, physical and cancer) could not cause DNA damage is foolish. I believe the government never came clean on what they did. I also believe they never will because of the damage to our government it would cause.

You do understand they sprayed the crap from low flying airplanes and it killed everything in the band where they sprayed. Not just some stuff. It killed everything. People who are scared of roundup, need to see what agent orange would do. I understand there were other agent ?? formulations they were spraying too. Don't know enough to say anything about them.

To quote Forest. "That's all I gotta say about that."

My brother was in it.
20 years older than me and died 2015
I think what did him in was his liver. He drank scotch every day.

I took it as a follow up to his previous post.

Didn't make sense otherwise.

My uncle died from cancer in the early 90’s associated with Agent Orange but the VA denied him coverage until it was too late. He served on one of the patrol boats in the Mekong Delta and said they would used to stand nearly ankle deep in it spraying the river banks with it

We tried to do a FOIA on some of his stuff but apparently the warehouse where his records were stored burned down…
