Law enforcement should be ashamed that this fool was able to get away with this for 16 years.

So the idiot outed himself in that video?
I believe he was a suspect early on. He has been questioned several times over the years.
Supposedly his buddy even told cops he helped to some degree in disposing of the body.
The initial detective dropped the ball big time. Black detective said it was just crack heads killing crack heads.

LE covered it up. The sheriff in TX (where body was found) was shunned and flat out lied to about evidence and DNA. APD protected this guy.

They must be incredibly incompetent

Glad that her family is finally getting some justice.
Had a family member killed almost 15 years ago in New Orleans and it’s still a cold case. I’ve always struggled in recent years with wanting justice versus having to open up a lot of wounds that spent countless hours in therapy learning to cope with. Unfortunately this happened right after Katrina and NOPD fumbled their way through it all.

Really? That’s the first I heard of that.

Same. I know I’ve heard it before but can’t recall. Did Woody or Jim allude to this? I assumed it was a relative of the black detective bc he worked so to botch the case but clearly this guy isn’t his nephew.

Man, what a waste. This young girl from a decent family working her way through college, her life was going places and then you have this loser who was protected by connections and sprinkle in incompetent police.
What a sad story.
And it took an ex cop to put it all together.
Heads should roll.
I am happy for her family. I'm glad I got to know this young lady. Even if by these means. She meant something to this world.
Rest in peace Courtney. You deserve it.

I think the black detective was just the epitome of lazy.
He thought it was bangers and not worth his time.

Yes he’s tripping bc we’ve all been waiting for a name and it was never said in the podcast
Actually, Woody released an episode saying that he figured out who the killer was and did say his name. However, if I remember correctly, Alexandria PD contacted him and asked him to take it down as it would interfere with them building their case before they made an arrest. Woody immediately took it down, so it was only up for a few hours, tops. Some people had already downloaded it by the time he took it down, and they were able to listen to it in its entirety.
ETA: Just went and found the update where he explains what happens. It was posted the following day on Nov. 16, 2019. That’s exactly what happened, he stated the name and how he came to that conclusion, then Alexandra PD contacted Courtney’s mom and asked her to contact Woody to take it down, so she did and out of respect for her, he obliged. He promised to re-release it once an arrest is made...

I just tried to find some info on this case and came across the fact her car was found in Houston a couple days later. In the possession of two individuals.
How did that happen? One would think there would be a connection there.

Her cell phone was in it. Apparently they “found” it. They were quickly cleared of any involvement with the murder.

Whoever drove this Burns guy back to Louisiana after he dumped her body and her car is hopefully singing like a bird.
He had help.
