I’m not sure what the cops can or should do about it that wouldn’t be perceived as a gun grab other than take the guy and leave the guns.
Would rather them do this. However, they took the guns AND the guy.

Caught in the middle of political bullshite. Any facts to back up your opinions?

Read the thread and decide for yourself what is fact. The version I’m telling is from the first hand account of the guy involved. Along with people around him aware of the situation. I find it extremely interesting that in the eight hours this was ongoing, the media didn’t report on it at all. It was only until the story blew up they released what was essentially a statement from police calling him a veteran with PTSD and they were only there for a domestic issue.

Red flag laws are a fine example of "do gooder" mentality and populist government causing more problems than they prevent.

I’m not saying the guy is a bad guy or is capable or willing to do anything associated with gun violence. But think about this, say for instance he goes out and kills some innocent people and the police had intel that he was a potential threat and did nothing. Where would the blame be placed then? It’s not an easy situation to handle for anyone. Due diligence is expected from a community that may be exposed to the threat.

My facts are that they arrested the guy as well as took his guns (which apparently happened earlier) when he pretty clearly stated that he had no guns or magazines on his body.
Furthermore, it should not be a crime for an American citizen convicted of no crime, having never harmed anybody unlawfully to own any weapon of his choosing.
What part of “shall not be infringed” do you people not understand?

You just generalized. And cops are proponents of the 2A to their own benefit and that is it.

Is it against the law for non-felons to own guns?
Even the fact that felons can no longer own guns is an infringement.

Didn’t seem like it in this instance.
I bet those cops will sleep tonight believing that they are proponents of the second amendment but they don’t even know what it says. frick those cops.

Your idea of due diligence is confiscating his firearms because someone said he was a threat? What kind of bullshite is that?
You’re pretty obviously a cop. Not even the most ardent of fricking boot lickers would say this is a reasonable response to what is essentially a rumor. You don’t get to violate the constitutional rights of citizens under the lie of public safety.

The more I read about this the more curious it gets. The wife wasn't in the house and a "buddy" that served with him turned him in. The only support for his story is his words. I am about 50/50 that the guy was in crisis and his vet friend saw it. The truth here will either make him a poster child for red flag laws or against them, though I imagine both sides will see what they want. I would like to hear from his vet friend and his wife.

Alright then. My next question will be, was this guy a felon?

You seem reasonable.
