This goes for hummingbirds too, though probably a majority of people think you have to take them down. That's nonsense and there are more hummingbirds spending the winter in the south. It's best to leave their feeders up.

Grab the bird seed and say:

"I'll be sure to let your manager know that you persuaded me to do business elsewhere. Have a good day"

And go put the seed back on the shelf.

Seriously. My parents feed the squirrels birdseed from a birdbath.
