re: Adult Wrestling Fans: Help Me Understand Why You Follow This Entertainment Industry

I have been watching wrestling since I was 7 years old, nearly 40 years now. Yes it's choreographed, but it also requires a lot of skill and provides great entertainment. I know a lot about it, and have worked in the business in various roles. There's also a certain camaraderie among wrestling fans that you just don't find anywhere else. We all "get" each other; there's no judgment or ridicule.

The best way to follow wrestling is ironically and as a guilty pleasure form of entertainment for when you’re feeling trashy. If you seriously follow wrestling and have a genuine care about it, reevaluate your priorities.

I'll give it a shot. There are a lot of reasons but here's why I enjoy it.
You may look at it as "fake fighting" which obviously has truth to it. But a lot of wrestling fans look at it as more of a dance. Two (or more) people using improv and choreographed moves to get a reaction out of the crowd. Their opponent is ultimately their dance partner. The fun part is how they get the crowd into it by telling a story or doing visually compelling maneuvers. I can't help but smile when a crowd is so invested they're chanting "this is awesome".
It's also cool to see how a person can get over with the fans on the microphone. This is admittedly soap opera-ish but also pretty fun. For example, you can look at the wrestler Becky Lynch's trajectory over the last few months with amazement. She went on a streak of winning matches but was not going anywhere. They made her sock her best friend in the face and talk on the microphone about how she's the "man". Now she's so popular with the fans, she might be the first woman to headline Wrestlemania.
It's entertaining, has shock value, provides nostalgia, and is live TV.

When my son was about 4 he was introduced to wrestling by a friend of us from preschool. So from that time until he was about 7 or 8 watching Monday Night Raw and the other WWE weekly show (I can’t rememver it’s name) was appointment TV for him and I. I knew it was fake. But it was entertaining and I loved watching him get excited over his favorite wrestlers. I kinda miss those days.

Well said.
Also, the spots that some of them do at high profile PPVs are insane. Like I mentioned before, you’re watching stunt men at work and they’re good at what they do.

I watch it sometimes. But it's not what it used to be so hard to care. I do like good matches vs good performers because it's great to watch the artistry of it.

So if you take the true uncertainty out if wrestling, I don’t understand where the interest comes from.
Retarded argument bro.
First, there is indeed uncertainty to the viewer. It's predetermined but it's not like WWE let's you know who is going to win ahead of time. Same as a movie, first time you watch you don't know how it'll turn out even though it is scripted.
Second, even if you do know the outcome doesn't mean something isn't fun or entertaining to watch. I just rewatched the Fiesta Bowl and found it entertaining and got a lot out of it. Also so many movies I know inside and out, have watched dozens of times and still watch and find entertaining like Casino, Goodfellas, Scarface with Pacino and the like.
Your argument against wrestling blows on many levels. Wrestling does suck now except for the Divas. NWO era was the most entertaining in my opinion.

It’s a tv reality show. The original one really. It’s no different from any other scripted show that people watch. This one just involves people wrestling. I don’t watch anymore but about twice a year I’ll turn on Raw to see if I know anyone. I don’t. But when my kids are a little older I can’t wait to take them to an event.

Yep. Same for the sleeper hold and figure four leg lock.

I always laugh when they get defensive and compare it to people watching football.
