Thanks Paige.
At this point we’re Giant Schnauzer people. We’ve had them since 1987. There’s a GS rescue organization that we’ve gotten three dogs from. Unfortunately there are rarely if ever puppies in the system. People get them then realize they really do get that big and they really do have that much energy and then they get rid of them.

I am all for people adopting dogs, and not saying that I wont adopt a dog in the future, but I am fricking sick of people giving me shite because I bought a nice hunting dog from a highly respected breeder. Mind your own fricking business and leave me the frick alone.

Assuming you did not solicit the breeding (like commissioning an artwork)...isn't THAT puppy now needing and deserving of a good home? Is it better to let THAT puppy have a shite home, have it taken to a shelter, and THEN you "adopt it"? I'm just wondering if there is a "moral" difference. The puppy now lives. So, now what?

Well, if no one adopts the breeders dogs, they will be in the same position as the rescue pets.
Why don’t breeder animals deserve a good home?

quote:Sure, by going through a breeder you are only supporting something that encourages animal cruelty & pet overpopulation. Not to mention, dogs through a breeder are WAY higher in demand than rescue dogs. So the chances of your purebred getting adopted are still much higher than the rescue getting passed up at the shelter.

Your example is like comparing to buying your hungry friend lunch instead of a homeless man. Both involve buying a meal for someone, however, one is helping someone in need that may not have a meal for awhile.

That is pretty fricked up, captain.

I bought from a breeder. Best animal decision I’ve ever made.

Over time, less demand will result in less supply. It's a fairly simple concept, Scruffs.

8-12 million pets are euthanized each year because so many would rather go to an over-priced breeder or puppy mill.
Put the blame where it belongs. If EVERYONE bought from reputable breeders, there would be fewer mutts at the pound cause people, who pay generally take better care them the ones looking for a cheap one.

There is a multitude of reasons why you should adopt a rescue instead of going through a dog breeder.
Absolutely... 100% accurate.

What [unselfish] reasons would anyone have to go through a breeder?
The "multitude" of answers to this will take a little growing up to understand if you actually believe there are none. Let's start with this... are there any (unselfish) reasons to insure the life and existence of any breed of dog?

This article explains why a lot of people buy instead of adopt
I’m worried I’ll face this issue LINK

Yeeesh...I'm buying my friend lunch every time in that scenario.

Over time, less demand will result in less supply. It's a fairly simple concept, Scruffs.
That likely would result in the euthanasia of a massive number.
In all seriousness though, your stance is moronic. The dogs that are ending up in shelters are not the purebreds. Those are taken care of.
The people that purchase dogs from breeders tend to be the responsible ones.
Take your complaints to all the people who don’t take care of dogs they get from the pound/rescue shelters. They seem to be the issue, not those who get their dogs from breeders.
Also, this “problem” you speak of will still exist even if all breeders closed.
Although, there won’t be any of certain breeds left since people like you would have euthanized them all out of love.
Do you work for PETA?

The vetting process is just to ensure that they aren't releasing an animal to a family that will be a risk to abandon it, let it run away, or hurt it. It's a good thing they don't just let any schmuck walk into a pound and take home an animal anymore. At least up until they have to be euthanized, the care they get at the shelter is better than nothing. That's why the "damaged goods" thing is kinda exaggerated.
As far as the rest of the article, I think the impact those groups have made is great. Fostering animals is a great thing to do too.

BTW..I love how the "breeder" is always some cruel, heartless ogre. There are those. But, most are not that. I am not talking about Puppy Mills. But, many breeders love their dogs and the breed itself.
The time and energy would be better spent encouraging spay / neuter programs.
BTW...my dog is a "rescue". It just happened that way. I feel no special sanctimony for doing it and my farts stink just like before I got it.
