Jay helped Adnan hide the body. Jay ratted out Adnan and the cops let him off for his part in it.

Also the cell phone records.

Apparently cell phone tower records are not accurate enough to be used in law in most cases. That data was really new around the time of the trial, so it wasn't widely known how inaccurate that data is.

Well, that's the official story, but Jay has had many other stories. Some where Adnan killed her at Best Buy, others where it occurred somewhere else. He's changed his story probably 5 times.

Did you even listen to the podcast? Homeboy's story changed multiple times during trial.

Like I said it's been a while. I mean I don't think he killed her or was there when he killed her. I think he probably killed her at Best Buy and went and dumped the body in the woods with the help of Jay.

What was the story of Adnan saying he was at some scenic outlook. I remember that really messed with the timeline for me.

I don't know if it was Adnan or Jay, but there is a lot more to this story than what came away from the case. I got the feeling that Jay was the least believable of the two, and Adnan should not have been convicted at the time. But the few hard facts of the case certainly lined up against Adnan

Jay had no motive. He came off as a liar, but it seemed more due to trying to minimize his involvement.

The fact that Adnan did not try to contact this girl he had called and paged multiple times a day everyday leading up to the murder makes me still lean towards him. It should have been the first contact he made after the cops called him.

The Nisha call is also one of way too many "unlucky coincidences" for Adnan.

That being said, I think he has a decent chance in the retrial. Way too much reasonable doubt and holes in the state's case.

Yeah, by no means do I think strongly that he is innocent. I just thought it was a little crazy how he got convicted in the first place despite basically no evidence and the testimony of one witness with major holes in his story

Adnan likely did it... Jay has no motive to lie... to think he just fabricated this whole story just doesn't make sense.

A thought my wife had is that it could have been the guy they are testing the DNA against (the one implicated in another murder). Jay could have been selling him drugs and somehow got caught up in it, which is how he knew where the car was.

His motivation for crafting this story would be because Jay was much more scared of the hardened criminal than he was the clean cut Muslim stoner that had too close of a relationship with Jay's girlfriend.

Then why did he lie so many times?

Jay was involved way more than he confessed to, that's almost a given.

he has no motive to make up a story painting AS as the murder... unless he either did it, or covering for whoever did... and neither of those scenarios seem plausible.

His lying about the details Im sure was to minimize his involvement... But even so, Adnan was the likely mastermind and main perpetrator.

Yeah, Adnand is guilty as the day is long. Lent Jay his car to get Stephanie a birthday present? Ridiculous on its face.

I think Syed did it but I'm not sure the prosecution met the burden of proof.

Of all the things that don't add up well for Adnan, that's what you focus in on?

I think Adnan did it. But the case was weak. His lawyer was annoying to listen to, although sounds like she was one of the best but got sick at some point.

I liked the episode where they said if he didn't do it, he was very unlucky that day.
