Of course there's slant in reporting, but this guy seemed to be just a regular kid who may have just either fricked up bad or didn't do it at all. Also, this was back in 98 or 99, before 9/11 so there was very little anti-Muslim sentiment in the trial. The most "racist" (if you can call it that) it got was that the prosecution at one point claimed that men of that region sometimes abused women, but that wasn't a big part of the case.

Eh, he also didn't get bail because they thought he would run away, because he was Muslim.

It was a huge part in denying him bail, which ultimately might have cost him his freedom. It greatly affected his ability to mount his case effectively.

I would say the bigger part of the case was his loony attorney fricking up and not taking the mistrial.
