My 14 y.o. Labrador isn't doing well. Hind legs are terribly weak. She can hardly climb stairs. Struggles to get up off the floor. The thought of putting her down doesn't sit well.

Thinking about going the holistic route and trying K-9 acupuncture. Anybody have a success story with K-9 acupuncture? Or is it smoke & mirrors? T.I.A.

I’ve never done acupuncture on my dog but I have twice on my horse. He loved it and moved much better after.

Both times were during bodywork treatments. Once chiro and once massage.

horses are pretty smart animals...he decided that he'd better start moving well or you were going to have someone come and stick a lot more holes in him!

Our Vet uses acupuncture, therapeutic cold laser and chiropractic for pets. We've never used these services but she says it helps dogs with hip disorders.

maybe so! My normal chiro couldn’t come out so someone else adjusted him once. They sedated him and used a mallet. I was glad to not be there for that he probably moved better after to keep me from calling the guy again

First time for acupuncture I could tell he was a little worried. It was about 6 years ago.

Last year he actually loved it. I wish I was an ot baller. My horse would live such a good life

Coworker has had laser therapy done on a cat for arthritis.
Think it is 6 sessions each a few days apart, about 250.00 for all.
Done at Dutchtown Animal Hospital.
Said there was a significant difference after a couple of sessions.

I considered acupuncture recently when I was concerned my dog had hurt his back and didn't seem to be healing. I talked to one of my friends who used to work at the vet school and she said she absolutely saw a positive result in animals she had seen get accupunture for pain. I'd think it's definitely worth a shot, and the price seems pretty fair from what I looked into.

I had a neighbor in Mobile who owned an American bulldog bandogge mix. At the age of 7 he started having bad joint pain. Couldn't walk. He tried everything.

He finally tried an acupuncturist and when they came back I couldn't believe it was the same dog. Running, jumping, acting like a puppy. We were neighbors for a while and even when the dog turned 11 he was as spry as ever.

I do acupuncture and chiropractic treatments in my practice and the acupuncture can be very helpful for pain management in arthritic dogs. I highly suggest trying it but you've gotta be willing to go for at least 4-6 sessions. Don't expect a single session to change your dog into a puppy again. Acupuncture like anything else works well in general, better for some than others.
