Time to celebrate something good and not the shite show that is going on now. Bring on the downvotes.

My father, 28 year in the Army served in Korea and 3 tours infantry in Vietnam. DS whistle on the top, and awarded the Legion of Merit. The best man I ever knew and whos standards I continue to fall short of!

Mine, four year in the Navy and served during Dessert storm.

The current generation of my family will be the first to not serve.

I upvoted because who can hate on a dad who passed away and served?

The last line makes me want to downvote too. LOL

Military is not for everybody. I would not try to make my kid feel guilty for not serving.

Just an observation and sadness, part of it is out of pride, and part of it is knowing that serving at a point in my life where I had no direction got me where I am today.

Who could downvote this. Thank you sir for serving this country.

Man, your father had an impressive service history.

Love the way you have preserved it.

I bought him a Navy Dad shirt and he wore it on base, his retort was "at least he doesn't have to sleep in the mud."

Used to have respect for the military but not so much now since they’ve been willingly compliant in the weaponization against America.

My respect for service members has no bounds. Everything we have is due to your sacrifice. I have raised my sons with this same respect. May God bless you all!

This isn't a thread about me, I hope other vets and active members chime in. If they people who didn't serve knew the stories we have it would be the longest thread in OT history.

My maternal grandfather was a tanker in the 4th Armored Div during WWII. He died in 1967 before I was born so I never got the chance to talk to him to learn much more. All I really know is he attained the rank of E6 and was awarded a bronze star with V device and a purple heart. He’s the reason I chose to go Armor when I enlisted May 1988.

My fraternal grandfather was in the navy. He was a radio man on a destroyer in the Pacific.

The have merged the DK an PN rates now, it makes sense unless you count the....indiscretions between the two.

My only regret in life is that I did not serve my country. Major props to you, your dad and all others who served.

The Navy has done some funky stuff with rates lately. I think they got rid of LS completely. Talks about combining YN and PS too.
