suspect Joseph DeAngelo looked even more gaunt, hollow in the face, and frail than before as his defense team asked to delay a hearing until next year so they could sift through all the evidence in the case.
“We’re continuing the case today because of the volumes of discovery that we’re receiving, and it's taking a long time to get through it,” Supervising Sacramento County Public Defender Diane Howard told reporters outside the court at Sacramento County Main Jail, according to KRCA.
The presiding judge agreed to delay a discovery hearing until early 2020 when both sides would sort through the evidence. It's expected that more than 200 witnesses are to be called and thousands of pieces of evidence examined, according to KRCA. That hearing has been scheduled for Jan. 22, the Sacramento Bee reports.
It may be years before a trial even begins for the 73-year-old man suspected of terrorizing California through a series of murders and rapes during the 1970s and 1980s.
Meanwhile, incarceration doesn't seem to have been kind to DeAngelo, who has appeared more gaunt by each court appearance. It’s a stark contrast from his arrest when he looked healthier. During his appearance, he stood emotionless from the courtroom cage.

We should just go ahead and erase the sixth amendment completely.

It is absolutely bonkers to me that they potentially captured this dude after all this time. Honestly incredible to me (if it is him).

Oh, it's him. He's committing suicide at a slow rate and I wish him luck.

More and more of these people will be caught or at least identified because of the proliferation of people using these DNA sites.

Oh, it's him. Not really a doubt about that. DNA from multiple crimes and it can be proven he was in the area for almost all of them, which is a big deal because they occurred all over the state.

Also, just the other circumstantial stuff like his ex's describing his behavior and his police background, which they predicted in his profile when hunting him.

He did it and he knows he's fricked, so he's lost his will to live and his body is shutting down.

Per the article, he is rotting away in prison. Guilty or not, I would want a speedy trial so that I could give myself some hope of dying a free man.

He has no hope.

I just wish he'd come clean and admit everything. There are crimes he likely committed that haven't been attributed to him that they could close the book on.

If you're not familiar with this discussion forum, it's worth a read. It's a little slow now, but has some good info.

While an extremely depraved and evil human, he's likely on the outside looking in if we made a Mount Rushmore of serial killers worldwide.

In modern times, yeah, he's up there.

Wife and I love serial killer podcasts on car rides

You can argue he is the smartest during his prime

You can also argue he’s the dumbest after his prime

Also got realllllly lucky a few times.

Don't know if we can say any serial killer that has been caught is the smartest because most haven't been caught.

He was foolish. But he basically embodied everything opposite of a typical serial killer
