Accounting, Grad school vs. 150 hours in undergrad

I'm an accounting major scheduled to graduate from LSU in May. What would be better for me to do, go to grad school and get Master's to reach 150 hours or graduate in December 2019 and do the Internal Audit program at LSU. After this semester I will only be 19 hours short of the 150 hour requirement to be eligible for CPA due to changing major multiple times. Would like to stay in Louisiana or go to Texas after graduation. What would be better for career? TIA

i Took a bunch of bull crap classes to reach 150 at Nicholls
I think the real value of the LSU grad program is not the classes but the career services department.

Both will get you to your end goal of a CPA. Doing the Masters will be harder, but will prepare you more for the CPA exam. LSU's internal audit program is good and you finish with a certification. It's really a person choice.

I got my 150 in undergrad (all the summers of bs electives were good for something). Depends if you want to take the CPA exam. If you don’t, I would do LSU IA program, as it is truly world class (like best in the world good); however, I find a CPA certification to be more valuable and the masters program will lend itself more to the CPA exam.
Edit: also Texas has higher requirements for sitting for the exam than Louisiana (it requires an upper level ethics course) but you could always get a reciprocal license later, which is what I’m doing.
Tl;dr - my personal recommendation is to do a masters, but only if you plan on seriously sitting for the Cpa exam. As someone else mentioned here, the certification is more sought after than having a masters.

If you get your CPA license, most employers won't even care about the master's degree. Personally if I had a chance to go back and do the Internal Audit program, I would. My sister in law went through the program and was hired before she even graduated.

I got my 150 in undergrad, did accounting, finance and business admin. I'd say whichever is faster, once you get your CPA it doesn't matter if you have a masters or not.

Maybe you should go talk to a professor or an advisor within the accounting department. As for me, I got my Masters at Arizona before sitting for the CPA.

Grad School or get a minor/double major in something that interest you. I tried to do the 150 by just taking extra random classes and it just didn't interest me because I was taking random classes. Ended up just going to grad school and it was easier because it was more focused on something that interested me.

Stay in undergrad, but take the grad level accounting. No reason to take the extra classes and get the degree if you are getting your CPA. My recommendation, take audit 2, tax 2, ethics, governmental accounting, and b law 2. That will get you most of your hours and will prepare you for the exams. View theses classes and studying for the exams coming later.
Edit, ethics is required for Texas so if there is a chance you'll be going there just go ahead and take it, it'll help you prepare for the exam anyway.

I could be wrong, but I believe if I do the 150 in undergrad with IA program I would meet all the education requirements for CPA in Louisiana and maybe Texas (unsure bc of ethics course).

You should for Louisiana. I'm not sure about Texas. I did my 150 in undergrad and my last semester of classes was all electives.

I'm almost positive you are correct

Louisiana has some of the lower requirements for the exam so if you got the 150 hours needed to graduate in accounting, you should be eligible for the exam after you have completed the work hours requirement, which doing a year of work will give you. Speak to your school advisor and tell them you intend to graduate with the courses needed for the exam and they will tell you any classes you lack.

I would be doing IA program as well as Govt. and BLAW 2 if I do undergrad.

No it won't, it's 1 year qualified experience.

From someone that was in your shoes not too long ago, take at least tax 2 as it will help you immensely. Id also highly reccomend taking Audit 2 and even Cost 2. I didnt even really need to study for BEC because I had just taken almost all of the material.
