I mean, I know the concept of such a thing but this is kind of strange to people from south Louisiana. Culturally, we don't really have adult-only parties. Maybe it's because we don't mind drinking and cutting up in front of our kids and are more family oriented.
When we have crawfish boils, barbecues or other get-togethers at somebody's house, some people bring kids and some people don't. It's more of a decision for the parents to make as to whether they want to deal with kids or not. It's not some social faux pas.
If you're in Texas it might be hard for you to get good advice on a internet forum made up of mostly people from Louisiana.
I've lived in other parts of the country and I can tell you there's absolutely drastic differences from region to region in how people interact and socialize with one another.

Yeah our street is usually like that as well; we have BBQs, crawfish boils, and just impromptu gatherings in the street, all with kids. Lots of families and young kids on the street. That’s what caught us off guard; usually it’s a family affair, just for some reason this wasn’t.
