Think I have an abscess tooth. I’ve never had one and need some advice. Any suggestions on help for the pain until I can see a dentist? Any dentist open on Sunday in the Baton Rouge area?

Get a script phoned in for amoxicillin. The infection is usually what causes the pain and do it now.

Emergency room dude if you really are living with an open pulsating would in your mouth. I’m not saying you’re indigent but a public hospital emergency room RN told me all open wound abscess tooth’s are legitimate “emergencies”. There are dental professionals on standby. When you’re with an RN you’ll hear stories about them I’ve never had one yet hopefully I won’t ever get one.

Urgent care will give you a few pain pills and some antibiotics to tie you over until your dentist appointment. Take the antibiotics immediately because a dentist won't pull it until the infection subsides.

You really should go to urgent care. They can give you something for the pain but the most important thing is antibiotics. If you wait and go to the dentist tomorrow they will likely give you antibiotics and tell you to come back in a few days once the infection is under control. They won’t do much if the infection is there. Might as well start on antibiotics now.

Not always true. They will pull the tooth if it is the source of the infection.
