re: Aborting children with down syndrome, would you do it?

It's abortion purists.. They like to tell themselves abortions shouldn't happen at any time, which is asinine. I'm sure most of it stems from their religious views and thinking God "creates" each individual, but I could counter that couldn't be the case as many children are conceived through evil means (rape, incest). Plus, if God is perfection, then it's doubtful he'd make deformed babies.

9 states still allow third trimester abortions.
Shouldn't have made such a blanket statement. With that said, without looking it up I would be everything those 9 states are Cali, maybe Or, and then states from the NE. I will never live in those states, so my statement is true and is so for the vast majority, if not all, people posting in this thread.

Did you read my post?
No, I did not. Just a drive by post.
My wife and I were in this boat. We had our son late. Wife was 39 when he was born. And we had struggled to have him. The amnio was pointless for us. After that long we weren't going to risk the added chance of miscarriage with that old rusty uterus being pierced. All to get an answer to a question that all along would not matter. We were NOT going to have an abortion.
I am NOT going to judge anyone that does however. You have to know what type of person you are. If you can not possibly see a world that you could love and care for a disabled child? Well then don't. I believe though that once you have that child it will not matter.
My son (born perfect) was examined by me ad nauseum.
I showed it to his nurse. She looked at me and did the silent walk away.

I know myself well enough to know I couldn't go through with raising a kid with Down Syndrome. Sorry, but at least I'm honest about it. More power to people who could do it.

I know myself well enough to know I couldn't go through life after choosing to have an abortion.
But to each his own.

How high up is the horse you're sitting on?

No. I would want to know if my unborn child had DS, but only so I could be better prepared for how to deal with it and raise them. Aborting would not be an option.

if you seriously believe that (and I personally think you would surprise yourself), then you should not ever purposely have children
when you have children, you are accepting the risk that you will be taking care of them the rest of their lives if something were to happen

We didn't know how we would do it, but we did.
It's no different than raising any other kid.
She was easier to raise as an infant and toddler than my other child.

How is that him sitting up on a high horse? He was just saying he would forever feel horrible if he chose to have an abortion.
Nothing wrong with that.
I have a friend who had an abortion when she was much younger. She found her faith later as an adult and struggled for years because she had an abortion, she regretted having one and felt it made her a horrible person because she did. Turned to alcohol and drugs for a period in her life as a coping mechanism. Was in therapy for several years cause of her guilt. She eventually was able to accept that God's forgiveness included her choice and now has a beautiful family with 2 healthy girls.

Fair enough. But you lived in one of these states just 24 months ago.
It's down to 7 states and DC:
Alaska
Colorado
New Hampshire
New Jersey
New Mexico
Oregon
Vermont
The remaining states have strict cutoffs or viability clauses.

I would feel like an absolute a-hole but I've seen the amount of work and sacrifice it takes to raise someone with Downs compared to a normal child and I just couldn't do it

Some responses in this thread are disheartening
They have a great outlook and do change lives. You can learn a lot from them and they will teach you what LIFE is all about. They have more love and joy to give than most people in this world

Here is the thing though.... Those tests to check for down syndrome of the fetus are not always accurate. Coworker of mine, her sister had a bunch of testing done when she was pregnant. Testing showed her baby had down's. Doctor asked her if she wanted to abort, she decided not to. Baby was born......perfectly healthy. So think about all those perfectly healthy babies that were aborted....because of inaccurate test results. If I ever become blessed enough to get pregnant...I'm not doing any invasive testing during my pregnancy(such as amniocentesis....which is very painful and carries a big risk of miscarriage) because it will
not change what I do. I would not abort a child just because they have down's syndrome.
and if my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle
yes

You're catholic? OMG Congratulations. So you support priest not being able to have sex? You know what type of person is willing to give up sex???? PEDOPHILES!! Who could have come to such a conclusion?
AND You believe in the law? Well the law says abortion is legal. Fathom that.
Your children should have been aborted so we don't have any more f*cks like you in this world.
