My neighbor and I had this discussion.

People were obviously popping some fire works in our neighborhood. But I've lived here for 11 years and my neighbor has been here closer to 20 years. The amount of fireworks shot off were the lowest we could recall.

This was in the Broadmoor neighborhood in Shreveport.

Normally the fireworks are popping off from sundown until well after midnight (with everyone saving stuff for exactly midnight). This year they started at sundown tapered off quickly to dead stop at 10pm.

People are maxing out their credit. They got fat on gubment cheese during the pandemic.

We are in for one hell of a correction.

I rode by our local stand this morning and it looked like they had most of their inventory under the huge tent they had rented.

People don't want to light their money on fire and watch it explode. The Potatus is doing a fine job of that for us all.

Nashville's 4th of July tourism was way down. Historical crowds have been 350k-400k. Crowds this year barely made 150k. I would think it's down because people's spending is down, but who knows. I know my spending is definitely down.

Those $50 boom boxes cost $2 to make. How about that industry cut down on the 17 middle men between China and the US consumer ?

Average credit card debt and utilization went down in 2020 and 2021, but don't let facts get in the way of your ramblings Rog

I live in the Gladstone area and I swear everyone around us was shooting fireworks. Probably the most I've heard in 5 years. Weird how it's different even a couple of miles from each other.

My area has become way more Hispanic so it sounded like a warzone out there last night.

How can you max out your credit if your balance and utilization decrease? Literally impossible

The fireworks going off in my area were probably more, and lasting longer than any previous year. It was a total war zone, apparently money was no issue.

I'd guess 1/4 of what it has normally been in my area

I spent $80 on 20 Roman candles and two “buy one get one” 5-box bundles of sparklers. Same stand I’ve gone to for years.

They didn't.

They maxed out credit once the cheese stopped flowing, Gomer. Consumer credit exploded early 2022.

Well, let's see. I was planning on going to a wedding near L.A. - just the flight and car were over $1,400 - with a shitty flight. If I added in an AirbNB, food and stuff to do it looked like an $8k trip - for THREE days - that's just silly.

Everybody is cracking down on spending right now. It's all gotten out of control at this point. I didn't even look at fireworks this year.
