The ideas of hell and eternal punishment didn't become part of the Jewish tradition until the Babylonian captivity. Those concepts were strictly the result of an oppressed people's hatred for their oppressor. Or maybe God just kept it secret for a millennia or so as a nice surprise.

I’ve often wondered what you have to do in Hell to go from being the one tortured to doing the torturing of others? Like is it a seniority thing where you reach enough years of being tortured and get promoted? Or is it a personality thing where like some people are so messed up that torture doesn’t phase them? Example you have one guy who generally a decent human but was never saved by Christ, so he feels fear and despair and the torture is awful to him. Then this other guy who gives zero fricks and went through pure hell in his lifetime on earth shows up and laughs at the demons and starts being all like “yea give it me good tear me to pieces I want it all you fricking pussy” and Satan looks at him like man this dude is fricked up just give him a job
