Another pathetic attempt by journalists to keep their job. They are really reaching high levels of loser. Polar vortex is so 2020.

East Coast braces for bomb cyclone

What is a bomb cyclone?

Its not new and simply refers to a dramatic pressure drop over 24 hours. Typically see one or two nor'easters fit the definition every year.

First time I heard it was about 3 years ago. its always occurred, they just like to pretend shits new by creating new names.

Reminds me of a few years ago when we had a "red flag warning." The number of people crying because "we never had one before so this must be something new" crowd was embarrassing. They literally just created it.

Atmospheric river is another.

Truth is, “bomb cyclone” has been around for a very long time.

The media has found this term and overused it in an attempt to cause hysteria for clicks and shares.

Same shite with the “polar vortex”

In the 1940s, some meteorologists began informally calling some big coastal storms "bombs."

Oh shite, better scrub this so we can blame global warming climate change.

One of my favorite things is see people get so pissed that meteorologists try to warn people by simply naming a storm or giving it a certain name to alert people that they may be in danger.

Kind of my point, this is generally what how they are known.

Locally atmospheric river is a new term, though its been around since the 90's. So, all the doomsday types think its a new phenomenon.

You don't watch much weather shows, do you?

That term has been around for a minute.

It has, just not in everyday language. I think it started in the 80's, but the Weather Channel is popularizing it.
