Uhh, if it's passed and they are still up it does.

the bill's author said in the Times-Pic that it wouldn't affect the statues in New Orleans

quote:

Carmody said HB71 could not stop the two-year effort by the City Council in New Orleans to move to museums or other locations, the statues of three Confederate luminaries that dominate major intersections.

I wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire.

I'd wait until the fire went out and piss in the ashes though.

I'm not really that FOR the confederate statues. It's more that I am very much against the slippery slop this opens up. We get rid of Jackson next, then Jefferson, then Washington, then everyone who ever owned a slave is taboo from history.

Slippery Slope.

Nothing else. It's the precedent this sets that bothers me, not the actual action.

had the mayor came out and said "We are going to move Lee and make the circle 'Tricentennial Circle Park'" I would be all for it. Good idea.

If they were to move Liberty place I wouldn't even notice.

Instead he says we are going to remove these nuisance monuments and that's it. Just those four. Not the other streets or monuments that are named for Confederates. Well fast forward two years later and he is chummy with a group that basically wants to remove every white name pre-1880 from local History.
That I cannot stand for.
There are slave owners who gave their all for this city. I'm sorry but that was the time they were in.

We don't look at the Pyramids and think of the Jews that built them, or the Roman ruins and think of all the christian blood that spilled there. We appreciate the history of the monuments.

Mitch could have done this so much better, instead he took up a cause of fighting racism and just divided the city more.
