BROOKHAVEN, Miss. - A Mississippi teen says his life was saved by his 18-year-old cousin who shielded him from bullets. Caleb Edwards says when a gunman entered a home early Sunday, "I thought I was going to die." The 15-year-old talked to The Associated Press on Monday with his mother by his side. He says he was shielded from the gunman by his cousin, Jordan Blackwell, who was shot to death. Caleb's 11-year-old brother, Austin Edwards, was also killed in the mass shooting. Eight people, including a sheriff's deputy, were killed at three different houses in the small towns of Bogue Chitto and Brookhaven. The suspect, 35-year-old Willie Corey Godbolt - known by friends and family as Corey - was arrested Sunday, hours after the rampage began. Investigators say he will be charged with one count of capital murder and seven counts of murder. Blackwell's parents, Shon and Tiffany Blackwell, confirmed their son was killed.

What a selfless hero and fantastic young man. There are far too few Jordan Blackwells in today's time

What a heart in that young man. So tragic he had to be put to the test by such a coward.

God bless him.

Damn.

This story made me weep like a little kid.

That's heroic alright. It's a shame his life was lost to a psychotic tPOS.

At some point we have to take a hard look at people's mental health in this country.

Let me know when you man up and jump in front of a crazy man with a gun to save a family member.

I wouldn't look at the proposed budget if I were you.

Why derail this thread? I did not create it for a social discussion, I created it to honor a brave young man, that's all

Whenever I see a story like this, I always wonder if I could do this for someone. I'd like to think I could do it for people I love, or even a younger person, as they have so much more life to experience and enjoy.

I guess there's no real way to know until you're put in this situation.

RIP to that young man and all the others killed in this senseless act. Prayers to all their family and friends.

I think he's saying that he believes there to be far more people on this earth that WOULD do this than the original post implies. If thats true, then its actually a positive outlook opposed to the negative post that got upvoted and defended by you.
