An article that gives details about the relationships of the retired Seals and how their fallen colleague lead them to gather together to help at the cave.

Breath taking in a tragic way.

Also talks about what they did, and their trip to their colleague's 'funeral'.

Agree, the failure of the pumps after the last boy out was a miracle.

British diver Unsworth is considering suing Musk.

Musk deletes and shows pix of his sub going in a straight line in clear water.

Also a mention that two of the Australians (including the anesthetist) got diplomatic immunity before they went up because they thought they could save some of the boys, but doubted they could save all of them.

good that they did it, man it's amazing how much CYA people have to do these days. They put their lives at risk but had to worry about shite like that because common sense just isn't enough these days

The cave was so far from being unknown. The linked map shows the detailed cave drawing done by the Pyrenees Speleological Association when they visited and mapped the cave in their Thai trip in 1987-88.

This is a pretty standard cave map, the kind that cavers all over the US have made when they have gone into new caves (and going into new caves or offshoots that haven't been mapped of previously mapped caves.)

Look at Pattaya Beach and the overhead clearance with a sharp turn.

Cavers knew what to expect, just based on their own underground experiences elsewhere.

A few clarifications RTF...

Thisis the actual map produced by cavers, based off of multiple teams' efforts (as noted in the lower left corner.) The media went ahead and added a bunch of stuff to pretty it up.

Notice one of the names there, Unsworth. You know, the guy Musk is being an arse to on Twitter. The guy who literally helped make the map of the place...

Regarding the caving team's expectations, they would have known the general layout of the cave but no one knew what to expect regarding water level/flow because cavers would have never gone in during the rainy season. No point when the exploration is much easier in the dry season.

I'm looking at his sub and still wondering how in the hell Musk thinks this thing would have been worth a shite in this situation when the divers were having to take their gear off to negotiate certain parts of the cave.

It's pretty incredible that Musk has damn near wrecked all of the goodwill his SpaceX launch got him just a short time ago.

Very well done piecefrom Australian tv about the Thai cave rescue mission (note: 55min long but worth it )

A few takeaways:

The US military seemed to play a key role along with the Thai's in "project management" or coordination of the rescue attempt

The kids were more than "a little sedated", they were basically taken out as delicate packages, with the cave diver 100% responsible for maneuvering their VIP package out of the underwater portions safely

Speaking of sedation, the Australians (including Drs. Harris and Challen) received diplomatic immunity in case their sedation plan went south...

And finally, I am extremely proud of the cave diving community for stepping up, dropping everything and coming together to use their unique skillset to help save the team. Makes me proud to be a tiny part of this small but no longer inconsequential community.

Musk was told there were small 11 year old boys, can't swim, no food for >8 days after soccer practice, never wore a facemask to breathe.

The only way to get them out was a breathable coffin.

Musk's engineers came up with the silver bullet.

You have a better idea?

Actually, in his Twitter rant, Musk said he was given the dimensions of the passageways and a lot of data. The divers who were actually in there said what he produced wouldn't work, and he threw a fit.

His involvement was a publicity stunt.

The boys' first press conference. They could swim. They didn't tell their parents they were going to the cave, one gave his parents the name of another cave. What they want to be when they grow up. And some details of the water rising, etc.
