A Cure for Chronic Lyme?

Apologies on the title. But If you or someone you know had Lyme, and never got over it, this is worth looking at. The anecdotal reports are very exciting.
Stanford did a screener testing more than (IIRC) 4,000 compounds for their effectiveness against Lyme. They found twenty that were worth pursuing clinically, based on their data. Many were much more effective than currently prescribed drugs.
The number one performer was very interesting though. It was Antabuse, which is not an antibiotic, and is generally prescribed to help drinkers quit drinking. Individuals on Antabuse will experience rapid and unpleasant hangovers after consuming even limited amounts of alcohol.
Other drugs were able to kill 90% or more of the Lyme bacteria in vitro. But Antabuse actually sterilized the cultures.
That was an exciting finding because even the most effective antibiotics were leaving behind what are called persister cells, cells which went dormant in the presence of antibiotics, only to activate when treatment ended. And this is why, we theorize, many individuals remain ill even after lengthy treatment cycles.
Based on this research, some doctors in North America have experimented with Antabuse. One, Doctor Liegner, just published three case studies in the latest edition of the Journal Antibiotics.
Two of those patients, individuals with a complicated history of treatment failures, and individuals who required regular antibiotic treatment to suppress the illness, went into remission, and remain in remission. One has been healthy for two years. One of the three patients did experience a relapse, but they were treated at a lower dosage for than the other two. And this individual has responded to additional treatment at the higher dosage.
Unlike other potential cures Antabuse is very cheap, perhaps twenty dollars a month. it’s also a well understood and safe drug. And these are really the first claims we’ve ever seen of individuals achieving remission from chronic Lyme.
Columbia is currently doing a study on it. And as wary as people are of saying “this is it” this may be it.

The 16 year old son of a friend on mine has Lymes. It has been brutal on his son. Kid used to play most sports and was very active. He pretty much goes to school and goes home. Thanks for posting.

Me too
Borrellia relies on Manganese, rather than Iron, which is unusual and it’s one of that ways Borrelia is able to elude our immune system.
Antabuse may be interfering with this mechanism.

Leigner has suggested a 500mg dose, once a day, for individuals who weight between 150 lbs and 200 lbs. With perhaps a four month treatment plan.
Some patients have dramatic Jarisch–Herxheimer reaction, and may need to build up to the 500mg dose.

Thanks brother
Sent it to my friend and she has already seen both docs in the past but was not aware of the new one (the one that is for alcohol hangovers).
So we both thank you

Most in the south don’t know much about Lyme disease, but its lifetime effects are no joke. It affects everyone differently.
I’ve heard nightmare accounts of lingering health issues some people have after West Nile, but Lyme is another animal.
