A little knowledge for everyone. See the circles on the filter below? Obviously, cutting those circles out would be a huge waste of money for the filter manufacturer. That piece of metal is actually the remnants of a sheet of metal used for metal making bottle caps.

No, they're not. You should use a pleated filter and change once a month. The blue ones are worthless.

Just stop. That's not true at all. What do you think the filter is even there for?

just buy permanent reusable filters for them, vacuum and rinse with hose then reinstall. if you find that too much work for one day get 2 sets and vacuum and wash them out later at your convenience LINK

This is the best answer. I put these in my house and never, I mean never, had any dust in my house after that. Just clean once a month. One of the best products I ever bought.

If you want the filter to catch hair and bowling balls, then feel free to use the blue ones. Otherwise, they're useless. They're not made for catching small particles. I'm sorry if you were sold a line of BS by a tech.

Wtf is in your house? What are you trying to filter out? The pleated filter isn't do anything the fiberglass filter isn't.

You are clueless here man. Your HVAC is not an air cleaner, using it to filter your air is bad for your system. If you want to filter your air, then get a separate system. Your air filter for your HVAC is simply there to prevent your HVAC system from getting dirty. Anything beyond that is a bonus.

I'm not going to argue with you. The bold type above tells me you know absolutely nothing at all about air filtration and air conditioning. I have pleated Merv 8's in my house. A blue filter does little to nothing for indoor air quality.

I completely agree regarding a whole house air cleaner. I certainly don't advocate the use of high filtration Merv filters such as a 13. However, the use of a low restriction Merv filter (such as an 8) is perfectly fine for your system. And, I know why the filter is there....better than anyone on this board.

The filter in your return isn't doing anything for your indoor air quality.

You keep throwing around the MERV rating of your pleated filter but a standard blown fiberglass filter has a rating of 5. You're talking about 5-10% arrestance difference. That's it. That filter at that location isn't doing much to your indoor air quality. You're not the only "expert" here hombre.

I favor the middle of the road pleated. MERV 8-10
Set alert on phone calendar and change every 2 months, not the 3 they say it’s good for.

I normally buy 3-4 at a time.

Cleans a lot of dust out of the air

Again, you don't understand the ratings. The fiberglass is between 1-4 on a Merv rating and catches about 80% of particles 50 microns and larger and approximately 25 percent of the particles in the 3 to 10 micron range.

A Merv 8 catches approximately 95% of particles 5 microns and larger.

Y’all proved a point. Just maybe the Merv 8 and up filters are eliminating all this shite y’all are worried about.

All I know is my old non OT BALLER home and my old ancient ac unit still works. I don’t go to the doctor hardly at all, so maybe you need to breathe some of that shite like me to stay acclimated to the germs and shite y’all are scared of.

FYI the blue one I’m using that’s .99 a piece at Home Depot is a Merv 2. I can just taste the dust mites and allergens now!

This is what I buy. 3 pack, change every month. I usually buy 2 3-packs at a time. Less than $3 a filter. Seems to do the job just fine. I also have heard the more expensive ones restrict air flow. I would call BS on that because it could mean the cheaper ones mean more repair work for the AC Guy, but the AC guy that told me can't keep up with the work he has as it is and certianly doesn't need any more. In fact he often tells me things to do to fix stuff myself.
