I am pretty much your basic white girl. I like popular radio music/rap and I always love the halftime shows.

Last night's was terrible. Ya boy was really feeling himself a little too much and it was uncomfortable and seemed to not cater to a single person actually watching. It was playing in the restaurant I was in, and everyone around me was looking at it with a terrible look on their face.

I'm not even a fan of that dude, but his halftime show was awesome. Prince was great too. I thought Maroon 5 would be good, Levine's voice was off, which made it sound bad, and then his performance was just awkward.

Travis Scott was ok. Big Boi was the highlight for me, but it just made me think they should have reunited Outkast and had them headline the show.

The last really good halftime show was when Bruno Mars absolutely killed it in 2014 with the Red Hot Chili Peppers. That was up there with Prince and Michael Jackson.

Yep, I'm an "old dude" and was very impressed with that show.

Yes. That was up there with Prince and Michael Jackson on sheer entertainment value. RHCP was a great addition to the show as well.

I didn't. You didn't make any point. You stated an opinion as fact.

Sure any idiot can get on the software and put sounds together, but it won't sound good. Just like any Joe can grab a guitar and play the 3 chords he knows.

Actually composing songs and creating an arrangement that works takes skill whether on a guitar or a computer. People acting like it doesn't because it's not on a guitar truly don't know music or are just unwilling to think outside of their little bubble.

I say this as someone who enjoys almost any genre of music outside of bro country pretty much. Classical, metal, pop, blues, etc I'll listen to it all depending on my mood at the time.

I haven't watched a halftime show in 40 years. Am I missing anything?

The timeless music of the 60's & 70's are just that-- classics. Todays garbage can't touch Queen, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, ELO, or even any pop songs. Name a song today that people will be singing in 40 years...

I respect classic artists/bands. They paved the way for current artists in many ways. Im not a Rock guy at all. But as far as R&b and Hio Hop goes. I feel the same way. Today's music is simply not as good as previous decades.

I understand youre not a Hip Hop fan. I respect that. But Big Boi(1/2 of Outkast) will 100% be played 40 years from now. Outkast are considered legends in the Hip Hop game.

Aretha Franklin stood up to these sick SJW people-- when they tried to bully her to not sing the national anthem

You unclutured swine, that was Gladys Knight.
Aretha Franklin(God rest her soul) along with Gladys are legends with amazing voices, though for sure. Few women have the voices they had.

Since this thread is still going. I do think it deserves to be said that even Maroon 5 fans were not overly impressed with last night. It really looked like Adam was uninterested most of the night. His vocals were slightly off, and overall he just did not impress it all with his voice. Not to mention, his dancing looked very cringe.

IIRC for the super bowl, the voices are live but not the instruments. RHCP "protested" it by having their guitar and bass very clearly not plugged into anything.

Ever since Prince's performance. They filmed the rehearsals to air if the weather didn't cooperate, but Prince, being Prince, said "frick it, can you make it rain harder?" and the producers decided to go live during the rainstorm with live equipment on a stage that was slick as hell. It held out until they powered everything off after Prince was done and the equipment wouldn't come back on again afterward. Now, the NFL doesn't take chances, so improvisation and creativity is right the frick out. That's a big reason that today's "live" performances suck, because they aren't live. There's no soul or feeding off the energy of 80,000 people because everything's pre-recorded and choreographed during rehearsals in an empty stadium.

Well...Gladys Knight sang the anthem first...they played the first half of football...THEN came the halftime show...so, technically, that's what they got.

No, many of us are not, but since you seem to believe it, please point us to the any modern music that comes anywhere CLOSE to "Dark Side of the Moon", "Sargent Peppers", "Harvest", "Pet Sounds", "Axis Bold as Love", anything by The Band, etc.

I'm a recording musician and despite what you say, it has become easier for idiots with much less talent to record and sell music in big bunches.

I can spend 5 minutes dialing up a "great" tone (by modern listening standards) in an amplifier modeler where it used to take us blood, sweat and hours mic-ing up Marshalls in the studio.

Same with drum sounds, I can spend an hour with a good Sampler whereas we would spend the first 2 or three days just getting the sounds right.

Don't even get me started on letting the machines spend the NIGHT trying to render tracks and effects in the infancy of digital.

It HAS gotten easier and it HAS gotten worse as far as music quality is concerned.
