The B52s often come in for a landing very low over I-20. The locals are used to it, but I bet it startles the hell out of some folks who are passing through on the interstate unaware, and it suddenly sounds like the world is ending and a giant shadow falls over their car.

Are you near a nuke site?
There are somewhere between 500 and 1000 nukes at Barksdale.

It was actually me today. It was my last flight in the B-2 before I move in a few weeks to fly a desk. It was a normal training sortie that apparently caused quite the ruckus on social media.

When I was like 6 or 7 I was in a private plan that ran out of gas and was forced to land at Barksdale. I remember the jeeps with machine gun attachments flying out on run way to meet us on tr runway and the pilot yelling please don’t shoot I have children on here.
Apparently the Vice President flew into Shreveport for something so they shut down the FBO etc but there was no warning or flight plan so pilot was forced to fly around until we ran out of gas. I think it was on news etc

A few years ago, a couple of kids took off in a small plane and, as shown by a map of their flight, looped all around the AFB in the runway area for 20 minutes. You’d think it would have been red alert and resulted in a missile up their arse, but nothing much happened. Shreveport Air Traffic control gave Barksdale the heads up they had a plane overhead at 500 to 1000 feet, and they just watched it until it crashed in the woods.

It's a pretty cool experience.

You see B-52’s.
You can also find B-52’s on their concert tour.

They were very tense at first but were nice after they realized it was just a big frick up. The pilot had a FAA investigation or something but he was let off the hook because the VP never filed any type of flight plan or anything so no way he could know they were going to close airport. Plus he was a bad arse helicopter pilot in Vietnam

Had 3 fly over our place in formation a few weeks ago. Don't usually see that so very cool.
The turbo fans are amazing to hear, might be the best ground support plane ever, they take a beating and keep on ticking.

We had some students at the ROTC Senior Leadership School "escape" their dorm rooms nearby and go trying to jump fences as a prank. The fence they chose to attempt to jump was around a bomb storage bunker (they had radiological signs on them, but it doesn't mean they had nukes in them at the time). SPs got a good little drill out of that.

Saw one on the flight line at BAFB from about 75 yds away. It was there for a command change ceremony. They’re pretty wild to see up close.

The BAFB tower tried to communicate with him, light up the runway lights and no response from pilot. His name was Jett btw, good kid but he made a bad decision that night.
