Poor guy. Lived a long life
(PRESS RELEASE St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office)
On Wednesday afternoon (May 3, 2017), an employee of Covington Country Club called 911 after he observed an elderly man lying on the ground, next to his truck, near 195 Country Club Drive. The man was later identified as 97-year-old Charles Crockett (Covington, Louisiana). Crockett was able to tell first responders that he was run over by his own truck as he was attempting to close a gate.
Crockett, who was doing some yardwork for a friend, was leaving the property for the day. He stopped his truck in order to shut a gate, but he accidentally didn’t put the truck fully in park. As Crockett exited his truck to close the gate, the truck rolled over him causing fatal injuries.
Crockett was rushed to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Randy Smith says, “To live to be 97-years-old is an accomplishment in itself. It’s a shame this gentleman’s life was taken due to a tragic and unexpected accident. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Mr. Crockett.”

A lady next door to me did this about 7 years ago. We found her and unfortunately watched her die. Its weird that this type of thing is so prevalent.

What kind of a-hole has a 97 year old doing yard work for them?

Pretty sure that's how the guy who played Chekov in the new Star Trek movies died except it pinned him into his mailbox.

That's what I was wondering.
Nah, honey, I don't need to mow the grass. Ole man Crockett's coming over today to take care of it.

My paw paw didn't get old until he stopped working outside at age 85. From 60 to 85 he didn't age a day.
We always tried to give him little jobs to do outside.

if you would tell most people they could live a happy healthy life and live to be 97 only to be run over by their own truck most would take that deal. RIP old dude!

Big difference between working in your own yard and doing "work" for someone else. I hate to think this poor old man was still working for a living.

97 yrs old and doing yard work for friends? Hell of a man there

I know that my 82 year old dad is much happier when he is working around the yard. Keeping busy is helpful as you age.

Meh, I don't find this tragic. The old coot was still out working, staying active. Even after his own truck pummeled him, he still had the grit to say what was up. Much better than dying watching Jeopardy on the recliner. Nice 97 years old man! RIP.
