I think it's biological. As you age, if you're not active, you'll die in short time. Just think, those that didn't contribute were a burden on the survival of everyone. So I think it's the natural order of things. Keep a purpose and schedule, where folks are depending on you, you'll live much longer (by natural causes anyway).

Damn go 97 years without fricking up enough to die and the damn gear shift gets you.
