I don’t know what it was about the 90s but everything just seemed so kid oriented. Snacks, drinks, fast food restaurants, everything just seemed to market to kids.
The 90s was the pinnacle low of corporate America's race to the bottom. Abundance of cheap Chinese goods and traditional American products being revised to be cheaper to manufacture. This is especially true with packaged foods. All for the greater good (AKA delivering higher profit margins whereby not passing the savings on to the consumer).
I can't think of a worse period when it comes to the devolution of American consumerism. This directly resulted in the "organic" push in the 2000s and the realization that America has no manufacturing capability stateside. All things done at this point are too little, too late to fix what ultimately was started by American corporate greed and Nixon going to China.

Probably the best decade to be a kid. It was a good combo of the 80s with arcades, malls, places like Chuck E. Cheese, discovery zone, fast food restaurants with play areas, video game stations. You had the popularity of video games but kids still largely played outside and played city league sports. Neighborhoods were still mostly safe. Some of the best cartoons on tv with Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network on cable
Damn...all of this. We were on the cusp of the digital age and got some of it's benefits without being sucked in. Yea I was excited for my N64, but was just as excited about my razor scooter and riding the neighborhood with my friends. I know every generation can say this, but we experienced something special that wont be felt again

Yup, we were the last ones without the internet changing the entire world. We were right before the digital transformation of society.

Advertising to kids is looked down upon today, and for good reason.
Yea the Karen’s of the world bitch about making McDonald’s fun for kids but they’ll let them play a graphic call of duty game for hours on end locked up in their bedroom.
And we wonder why school shootings increased
Maybe if we made the world more fun for kids they’d get out and be social again instead of sit in front of a tv. Maybe if parents stop blaming marketing for childhood obesity and start being a parent and controlling their kids consumption of unhealthy foods and make sure they get exercise the world would be a better place

I remember getting internet for the first time we bought one of those Macintosh computers with the colorful plastic cover from BestBuy. My dad was so excited and wanted to show me and my little sister and tried to explain the importance of it. This was around 95-96 I think. After waiting 2 minutes for dial up to connect and another 5 minutes to load the page I said “this is boring I’m going to ride my bike”
I remember it vividly
