Back in the 80s B97 fm in NOLA had a nighttime DJ named Coyote Calhoun who would mix in a lot of underplayed new wave into his format after 8 pm. He got bigger ratings than the morning guy .... and on Sunday evenings would do nothing but New Wave from 6-10.
The first time he played "She Sells Sanctuary" it blew the phones up so much that people were calling WRNO which then played nothing but rock to put it on.
J. Mark Costello who owned it said no way after a dj actually did because he said The Cult was New Wave and not really rock......The Cult

Depeche Mode is one of my staple stations on Amazon Music. My kids know it’s about to pop off when they here”playing Depeche Mode” come through the Sonos.

Such a crazy range of great music that decade. I graduated HS in 1987, so I'm here for all of it.
