8 year old having trouble with attention span

My sons teacher said he’s having trouble keeping his attention in class. He’ll forget to sign his name to each page or sometimes skips a math problem or two on tests. He makes all A’s but often talks to others during class so his conduct grade suffers. His teacher said he’s very bright and this isn’t a red flag yet, but more like a yellow. Not sure what to do at this point, but looking at maybe having him see a professional. Anyone else have issues like this with their child? The teacher doesn’t think it’s ADD but wants us to watch him closely.

Sounds like ADHD to me. Take him to a shrink.

If he isn't having issues at home and it isn't affecting his school performance, he shouldn't be on ADD medications. If he was having issues in more than one life area and it was affecting his performance I would say go have him evaluated.

Cut back his tv/video/gaming. Not good for a kids brain wiring.

I had ADD once as a kid for about 8 hours before my dad got ahold of me.
Cured to this day.

Since he is bright, tell the teacher to give home extra work. Might help him to be not as talkative in class.

An eight year old boy lacks attention in school...you should dope him up so he lacks any initiative or free thought....
Seriously maybe a different type of schooling would be better if you are concerned.

I have no expertise, but I'll just express the opinion that when you consult a professional that you be wary of putting the kid on drugs.

No drinks with red dye and no concentrated sugar foods or soft drinks after 5pm
It works
It works

Could he be bored in class?
I used to struggle with careless mistakes because I was rushing through the assignments and tests. Maybe speak to his teacher about any enrichment opportunities for him and see if that helps him calm down on normal assignments.

Your sons teacher is an a-hole.

Then there's nothing to worry about.

Your kid makes all As, isn't shy, likes talking to people, and is also 8 years old and occasionally forgets stupid repetitive nonsense tasks assigned by teachers like writing his name on every page?
Sounds like he's bright and not challenged enough because school is built to cater to the average and pander to the lowest common denominator.
I'll tell you how I feel about school. it's a waste of time. Bunch of people runnin' around bumpin' into each other, got a guy up front says, '2 + 2,' and the people in the back say, '4.' Then the bell rings and they give you a carton of milk and a piece of paper that says you can go take a dump or somethin'. I mean, it's not a place for smart people. I know that's not a popular opinion, but that's my two cents on the issue.
You have 2 options:
1. Continue to parent him like normal and he'll grow up to be a normal kid.
2. Being your 8 year old to a doctor because he has too much energy to sit in a classroom all day and they'll jam pills down his throat and frick his brain development and personality into the drain.
Up to you

Take him on a tour of a local prison. See if a few inmates can scare him straight.

his conduct grade
We had check marks on the board. My check marks took up more than everyone else combined. It looked like an 8x8 matrix.
Make the kid play sports, and take away iPad and Nintendo or whatever they use nowadays
