I was just about to ask about that location in comparison to 2004. This could get bad fast.

Thankfully I'm inland in Sumatra. Should be good. But Padang and Aceh better watch out.

I hope they have improved the warning systems in that part of the world in the last 12 years.

I have always wanted to visit that part of the world but earthquakes scare the shite out of me.

Even with tornadoes you have a few minutes warning in most cases.

We had a volcano that got restless last summer, and it made a lot of earthquakes. I was only able to feel 2 or 3 of them, but I did not like the sensation, and the tsunami threat from the volcano blowing made really uncomfortable. Luckily it didn't blow and it was all me being a puss, but I will take a hurricane or tornado anyday to earthquakes and tsunamis.

so what does that information mean? I see a spike that I am guessing could be the tsunami?

This could turn out to be a pretty stupid comment in hindsight. Hopefully not.

Tsunami are shallow water waves, even in that deep of water.

Event mode basically means that there had been a significant and extended deviation from the semi diurnal tidal cycle that is typical for that area.

Combine that knowledge with the local eq... And it's time to start watching the beaches.
