Even if they were in the German Army?

I think one of the neatest things about the endeavor was the disinformation campaign to make the Germans think the Allies were going to land at the Pas de Calais.

That dude is unsatisfactory. Eyes to the front during the salute. He's looking around like there's a fly buzzing around. Unsat.

Operation Chattanooga Choo Choo continues with unabated fury. The Allied fighter pilots are getting plenty of strafing practice in as the assault on the enemy railroad infrastructure continues.
One new trick that the Allied fighter pilots have perfected is the following: drop a full "belly tank" of auxiliary fuel on top of an enemy locomotive. Then strafe it with incendiary rounds and watch it light up like a gasoline bomb!
In Italy, the assault on the Hitler Line continues. Signs of the enemy weakening in that sector are increasing.

Man, you are really determined to be the OP in the annual D-Day thread, huh?

This is not just any old annual DDay thread. THIS is the 75th Anniversary of the D-Day Invasion !!
Go find your DVD of "The Longest Day" and prepare to watch it several times before June 7th arrives.

My favorite WWII movie when I was a kid was The Big Red One. Until Saving Private Ryan came out it was the only film depiction of D-Day that I knew. FYI, I saw clips online of The Longest Day remastered with color. It was like watching it again for the first time.

Market-Garden locales in Holland
Sorry for the thread interruption but if you are going to be in the area, I would think this cemetery would be a great place to visit!
Cemetery at Margraten
The below video describes the locals that volunteer to "adopt" an American plot to maintain and visit. Such is the gratitude the locals have for their American liberators!

People forget how ambitious and difficult an amphibious invasion was in 1944. Nothing close to the scale of Overlord had been planned or executed.
It's a testament to everyone involved that things were not a complete disaster. The success is a shining moment for America and the Allies.
God bless everyone who participated and lost their lives. It's such an incredible moment in retrospect.

Not necessarily true, Operation Husky was an enormous operation, but without the stiff resistance.

Overlord had about 10x the troops involved. I don't mean to short Husky, but the support demands alone for that many more troops is just a different scale.

I'm saying that Husky was a good to great learning experience for Overlord planning

25 May 1944
G2 BULLETIN
SUBJECT: The enemy tank called "Panther" presents a significant increased threat. The Panther was first encountered by British forces in Italy yesterday, 24 May.
Panther is lighter and faster than the enemy tank called Tiger. Its anti-armor capability is at least equal to Tiger. Panther's anti-personnel capability is less than Tiger due to Panther's smaller caliber shell. Panther's development problems that manifested on the Eastern Front last July appear to have been corrected.
Recommend immediate coordination with all British G2/Intelligence sources in order to more thoroughly develop data on Panther. Panther represents a severe threat to our forces, especially if it can be produced in numbers large enough to equip the enemy's armored divisions that will be deployed in the Western Theater of war.

Here's what the Reich Minister of Armaments Production had to say about Panther in his book "Inside the Third Reich."
"Since the Tiger had originally been designed to weigh fifty tons but as a result of Hitler's demands had gone up to seventy five tons, we decided to develop a new thirty ton tank whose very name, Panther, was to signify greater agility. Though light in weight, its motor was to be the same as the Tiger's, which meant it could develop superior speed. But in the course of a year Hitler once again insisted on clapping so much armor on it, as well as larger guns, that it ultimately reached forty eight tons, the original weight of the Tiger."

So Omaha, Juno, etc as names were not know to the enemy? Not sure why i thought they were, as they are all over maps that are on display. Details of WWII are quite fascinating.
