Would love to know if the stories about his ability to drink are true.

I think there’s too many accounts of his drinking for them to be untrue. Some are stretched I’m sure, but Andre could handle his liquor like no other

Virtually anything you heard about it is true and verified from his various rasslin' associates, notably Hulk Hogan who once had an assignment primarily to fetch booze for the Giant.

He was mainly self-medicating his constant pain (giants never really stop growing, his spine was bent, he was too big for "normal" shite) and all that and was just too big to get traditionally "drunk". Rather, he would just pass the frick out.

On one particularly famous 6-hour flight, he drank 1 beer short of 5 cases - in other words, 1 beer every 3 minutes for 6 hours. Wrap your mind around that.

Also, wrestling is notoriously bad for padding stats - he was probably closer to 6'10" in height, because his spine was so curved at the top, but stretched out "normally" he would have likely been 7' or maybe a little taller. His weight did fluctuate from about 460 to 520, so the "billed" weight was about right.

Would be annoying and ironic if his bladder was the size of a thimble.

I would have paid good money to see him play middle linebacker.

I could go into more detail, but Modern Drunkard magazine said it best:

He kept growing so he might have been that tall when he died, but likely wasn’t that tall while wrestling and acting.

I imagine anyone who is active, 500lbs, and an alcoholic could drink an insane amount. So, I’m sure it’s true.

When Andre arrived in New York to begin his long working relationship with the McMahon family, his reputation as both a serious student of the nightlife and an extravagant spender was already a topic of speculation and wonder among East Coast wrestlers and promoters. Andre might make $15,000-$20,000 for a single appearance at Madison Square Garden, and a substantial amount of that went to settling the bar tabs he piled up as he boozed his way up and down Manhattan until sunrise
