Around five years ago there was a hard freeze almost all the way to Key West and it killed a lot of the pythons. But, many survived and either they are more cold resistant than those that died or just a little smarter by taking shelter. These snakes are now reproducing and passing that gene on. Nature is amazing and they could possibly learn to hibernate in colder and more northerly environments.

It kinda goes back to the "life finds a way" soundbyte.
Florida has a lot of Burmese pythons..but they also have African rock pythons. A lot of places in Africa get cold during the night, those snakes are used to evading cool temperatures. And a large snake can put 1 good meal to use for a long period of time.
African rock pythons can crossbreed with Burmese and make interesting hybrids. Highly adaptable hybrids.
