Stacked one on top of the other on the O-T:

quote:

6 dead, 12 others shot in New Orleans area over Memorial Day weekend

Why are residents of Louisiana on this board so opposed to people visiting New Orleans?

where are the natives to tell me I’m being silly to not visit Nola with my family like in the thread yesterday?

I think Baton Rouge has a shot at the championship this year. NOLA might be the standard bearer, but BRoken says “we coming”

I bet I could draw a floor plan of that apartment building just by looking at it.

Don't know areas of Slidell, but Elm Street is one of the few Metairie streets that I was warned about as a child (in the 1980s). That and Bunch Village.
Nothing new there.

What someone said earlier is true: It is quite easy to take a wrong turn and be somewhere unsafe in NO. Not as true in Metairie or Slidell. The checkerboard nature of bad neigborhoods and not as bad neighborhoods makes New Orleans stand out vs other high crime cities.

Things are indeed getting worse there, too. These things are cyclical. From the 70s-90s, shite was terrible. It's heading back in that direction.

And while it is silly to dash around scared all the time, you don't have to be seriously injured or killed to be a victim of a violent crime. If you've ever had a gun pointed at your head for your wallet or had your house broken into, it is a disturbing violation that will make you question living in that city.

Can’t wait for the people in here that say NOLA is safe, and y’all are just exaggerating. Dumbasses.

Can’t upvote this enough!

None of those neighborhoods have been good for at least 50 years - especially at night

Is there another street more popular for tourists than Bourbon street?

Destroya is quick to get in front of a camera for anything but to address crime.

Terrible place

It has the same problem as BR- and it's not going to ever slow down until the rotten individuals doing this are either put away forever, or put down.

The experts can blame whatever they like- but there is no denying there is a "subculture of death" that places ZERO value on the gift of human life. Good luck "coexisting" with that.

Love how people try to parse the murders as though the lives in one area are less important than they are in others.

Very telling

Tourist lives clearly matter more than others I guess
