6 dead, 12 others shot in New Orleans area over Memorial Day weekend
WDSU
A violent Memorial Day weekend in the New Orleans metropolitan area has seen five people killed, including a 12-year-old girl, and a dozen others injured in shootings, according to preliminary NOPD reports.
The 12-year-old was one of three people shot late Sunday night in the Holy Cross neighborhood. It was the first of four overnight shootings in New Orleans.
The holiday weekend shootings started late Friday in the Fairgrounds neighborhood, where a man was wounded in the 2800 block of Castiglione Street. Police said the victim and suspect were in a fight just before 11 p.m. when the suspect pulled a gun and shot the victim in the shoulder.
Two 24-year-old women were shot around midnight Friday in the Little Woods neighborhood, according to an initial police report. A subject in a dark-colored vehicle began shooting at the victims near the intersection of Hayne Boulevard and Weaver Avenue. The women were able to get away from the suspect's vehicle and were taken to the hospital by ambulance.
Late Saturday afternoon, police said a man shot in the hand near the intersection of Pleasure and Piety streets in the Desire area and was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle.
A pair of fatal shootings overnight Saturday in New Orleans involved suspects and victims in vehicles.
The first happened around 11 p.m. near the St. Roch neighborhood where a woman was found in her car shot multiple times. Police say occupants of another vehicle approached her and opened fire. She was pronounced dead on the scene in the 1700 block of Franklin Avenue, according to the NOPD.
Just before midnight Saturday, police say a 17-year-old male was killed when he was shot in a vehicle at the Central City intersection of Thalia and South Robertson streets. Another passenger in the car was uninjured. The suspects fired from a car they eventually abandoned and that was later determined to be stolen, police said.

In addition to the shootings, NOPD preliminary reports indicate there have been four aggravated battery incidents involving stabbings and five aggravated rapes in the city over the holiday weekend.

At least it’s not Chicago?

New Orleans has all the crime, but none of economic mobility or opportunity.

Dang those New Orleans boys have wayyyy more accuracy than those Chicago boys. 33.3% kill rate.

New Orleans is more dangerous than Chicago on a per capita basis. So is Baton Rouge.

Those are rookie numbers
I remember when New Orleans was the murder capital back in the mid 90s

Zero of those shootings occurred in an area anyone here would frequent. Let the scum take themselves out.

Isn’t this a great reason why residents of Louisiana on this board are so opposed to people visiting New Orleans. Enter at your own risk!

Again, no one is visiting those areas.

You’re trying too hard. Read my reply again, and to what I was replying to.
It’s like saying you’re not going to anymore LSU games because of the crime in Baton Rouge.
Most people here couldn’t find those areas if they tried.

At least New Orleans has a strong economy, decent drainage, and doesn't smell like a sewer.
ETA: My bad. New Orleans is a complete shite hole.

Why are all of the Covid tough guys so afraid of crime? Very little chance of ever being impacted by it.

I'm way more concerned about being a random victim of violence than getting the Rona. Already had that.
