Take my advice to heart. Many brands but this is an option as they offer an inverter with a high watts rating.

You can then add a parallel kit and add a 2500 inverter along with this. They are quiet compared to the others. Fuel Effecient, More portable, will have additional uses for them. All around better combo to have than the loud gas guzzling generators.

For the love of God, don’t get a Westinghouse. I ordered one, it leaked fuel and wouldn’t start. Sent it back and they sent me another one. It started but still leaked gas. Customer service is awful. The only saving grace is that I ordered through Amazon and they let me keep it even after refunding me. I haven’t even tried to start it since I got it back from the shop where they told me that Westinghouse customer service told them that when it was running at 10% higher revs than normal it was within their specifications.

Sounded like a regular generator too, so I know there is a bad seal or something in there. Spend the extra money and get something reliable.

Honda is the best, but wildly expensive if you only need it for emergencies. I prefer their 1000-2000 sizes for casual use like camping, tailgating.

I have a Ryobi 6500, and I have it because it was cheap.
And it shows. You really have to make sure you run it every month or two and stabilize the fuel, or it can be PITA to start when you need it. My last one was a Coleman, and I would say it was about the same quality, but didn't look as pretty.

One thing about 5500-6500 size generators is that although they may have wheels, they aren't exactly portable. I am able to manhandle this thing into my truck, but I am a lumberjack of a man, lol, most people would need a helper to load up.

I got the 6500 so we can run a freezer and fridge at the same time with a tv and basic stuff. I haven't had an issue, I supposed if they both cycled at the same time, it might be a problem, but it hasn't been.

I bought a Ryobi 6500 after Laura. No problems. it worked very well. One small complaint: no gas gauge.

Just open the lid and light a match to see what's inside

If you can afford it Honda--no doubt about it. I've owned many and this thing cranks in 1 second and purrs like a kitten it's so quiet.

Yeah, I have heard that these worked well for some around Lake Charles for sure. I liked the dual fuel (Firman), because I used the propane connection most of the time. The propane lasted a lot longer than the gasoline. I had to run it pretty much all day, everyday, for 3 weeks. It held up extremely well and powered everything in my house, including 3 pretty large window units. I had TV, air, refrigerators, lights, 2 freezers, fans, and 2 water heaters connected. Never attempted the central air system, because I didn't think that would work and the window units were cooling. Crazy that this go around, the generator actually ran my central heating system as well as all the other things.

I have CPE and Harbor Freight Predator generators, they've worked 100% when I've needed them too. I am also religious on their maintenance and storage, they are stored covered inside my shop drained of all fuel except a small amount of 4-cycle TruFuel mixed with a little MMO that I use to run the generator dry on. When put into use I use fresh gasoline treated with Sta-bil 360.

I haven’t had good luck with generac. The electronics seem to go out if ran for extended intervals. Honda and Yamaha inverters are great and parts are readily available. Predator generators have a good reputation and are much cheaper. The Westinghouse ones are the best value right now but several people on this board have had issues with them.

I have a 6,500 Coleman with a Subaru/Fuji engine that's very good in that it starts within the pull of the recoil.
Had 1 problem with the air filter element disintegrating with ethanol. Use non-ethanol gas now.
The recoil developed some slack and the fix was simple to re tighten it.
Not sure that model is made anymore, but the Subaru motor and generator unit are good performers.

We bought the Dual fuel one from Costco. I keep propane on hand to get me going for a few days and gas cans on hand to fill if we need them. I also got a pump to pump my boat gas tank if I can't get gas anywhere.

Anyone have any opinions on the dual fuel portable generators. Sounds like an advantage to me to have the option to run thru propane if you run out of gas or something. Are there are disadvantages ?

anyone have experience with WEN inverter generators?
or the champion? Champion seems to have some pretty robust models in an inverter package

If it’s only emergency use, I like the ability to fire it up with propane every once in a while. You don’t have to worry about gas fouling up the carb if it’s sitting long term.

I bought this tri-fuel from Costco and love it. I run it on natural gas. Used it for 2 hurricanes, it is a beast.

For anyone who is not a Costco member, you can still shop there without being accompanied by a member. Have a member buy a gift card from Costco for you, and you can shop there.
