This is what confuses me. People still buy Toyotas despite the fact that they are a decade behind in tech and interiors because they are so mechanically reliable. If Toyota could just be 5 years behind in tech and interiors they would dominate the market place.
I’m not sure why everyone is recommending the 4Runner when OP has stated that he won’t be putting many miles on the car, and didn’t indicate that it will be used for towing or going off road.
The atlas and palisade are very spacious, have modern interiors and tech, and offer a more comfortable ride.

Just not sure if 4Runner is big enough with two kids.
We have 3 kids in the highlander. I feel like that’s a lot more comparable to the other two you listed.
We were between the palisade and highlander, probably 55/45. The palisade has more bells and whistles but the highlander drove better and it’s a Toyota. The Hyundai dealership played every game in the book while the Toyota baw was really easy to work with.
Figure my oldest (now 8) will be able to drive that highlander pretty easily.

I was in the same situation as you 18 months ago, looking for the same type of vehicle for my wife. I did research on 4Runners and found a lot of negative feedback and reviews. Also, when it comes to 3rd row seats, which are vital when you have young kids, I recall the 4Runner only has them in the premium trim version. I never thought I would own a Honda, but we decided on a Pilot and have been very happy with it.
