Will be starting the Tamiya 1/32 F14 Tomcat soon. I have taken a break since completing the 1/32 F15 Strike Eagle and the 1/32 F4J Phantom II. I love the larger scale after building over 30 1/48 scales but they just take up a lot of space.

I rarely venture into the 1:32 scale world. But there is a new 1:32 scale TBD Devastator kit coming out from Trumpeter. The Devastator has always been a favorite of mine so I’m going to get this kit.

Agreed on the Google part, but I always enjoy a conversation about these things from experienced, liked-minded people to pick their brain(s).

I build two kits, concurrently. The other kit I work on when I take breaks is a Guillows balsa project:

Eventual plan is to put motors in and fly it as radio controlled.

I’ve built all the Guillows 500 series (9 aircraft) but for display only:

Most of the Guillows are approx 1/32 scale.

The next kit I buy will most likely be the Battle of Berlin diorama:

My dioramas haven’t caused me too much grief in my war chest:

I’ll add in my latest: Tamiya 1/48 F-4B in VF-161 Chargers livery. Rock River 100

Most of the markings are painted

I understand the 1:35 scale reference perfectly, however, when I look at terrain and buildings, they come in different sizes in mm - 15mm, 28mm, etc.

Do you know the size of these terrain specs that match with something like a 1:35 tank?

“28mm” is a common scale for miniature war gaming, but there has been scale creep towards “heroic” scale things. Usually, things don’t always match up well, 28mm scales decently with stuff in the 1:43ish to 1:35 size when it comes to die cast cars and the vehicles in the games.

I’ve referenced this site for scales before. Looks like 1:35 would be around 50mm or so. 1:32 is 58mm.

Great work, Spiff. You just can’t beat a good Tamiya kit.

USS Midway. Very appropriate post. Thanks.

Your work is excellent. Love the two seater with both aviators.

This is by far the best kit I've every built. Also have their 1/48 F-14A, f-14d, and P-38 waiting. This kit is almost error proof and some things don't need glue. Quality is par-none.

Thanks! The F-4 is my favorite jet. The one I built is a double Mig killer.

Paints were Hataka, MRP, and Mr Color lacquers. Tamiya acrylics in the cockpit. Weathering was done with oils - the underside of real F-4s got very dirty. I think I did a decent job replicating it.

Some work on progress shots:

Yeah man, that’s professional level quality.

The cockpit interior is off the charts. Green displays, ejection seat handles - all sorts of buzzers and gizmos in there, painted masterfully.

Great share.

Nice build! That Hellcat pilot only has 2 kills, which helps explain why the Zero is on his six o’clock.

Keep building and posting!

I thought this was a Vader post I love these things. I dabble myself. Done it since I was a kid so it’s been 30+ years now. I’ll post some pics sometime, I’ve always focused on the navy. Aircraft carriers, destroyers, all types of planes.

My grandfather used to work in a museum where they sold these. Guess what we got from him every birthday.

That metal kit makes me laugh a little. I can only imagine all the kids soldering indoors, hacking up a lung. Super cool kit.

That’s nice. If you have the space to put them somewhere on display, the 1/32 scale aircraft models are impressive to look at. I put my F4J on my sons dresser top. The F-15 is on my dresser top. I have all the 1/48 scale models on a table and shelves in my media room in the basement. The 1/32 are about 20”-24” long depending on the aircraft.
