Is this a real question? You think someone floats right when they drown?

How does a 4 year old drown underneath you in a small hotel pool without anyone noticing?

Do some research on drowning. It is a very silent thing. It scared the crap out of me and now I do not take my eyes off my kids. You will not get any warning when someone is drowning most of the time.

When someone slips under they cannot scream or flail their arms for help and many times they are confused for someone just swimming. Most people don't notice others around them in public and are not just staring people down. You are talking and watching what you are doing. It doesn't take much time at all for a bad situation to occur.

This happened at a water park my wife and kids were at Summer or two ago. Three year old girl came down a water slide and never came up. By the time her grand parents realized she was missing it was too late. There were dozens of people around and nobody noticed she was right there beneath where the slide went into the water. Here’s a picture of exactly where it happened.

The water is about 5’ deep where those two slides are located. She drown beneath the blue one.

What does that mean?

In a big group, everyone assumes someone else is watching, so no one ends up watching.

That's so sad and yes there are a lot of stupid parents out there.
Water is the one thing I never let my guard down every with the kids. Even though my son is 12 and a good swimmer, I never let him out of my site at hotel pools or out at the lake, etc.

When he was 7 we were at the swim club (which has two lifeguards on duty). His older sister was swimming across the pool and he decided he was going to follow up, but he got tired halfway across and grabbed onto her. They were both about to go down and I put a tray of food down and jumped in to get them. The lifeguard saw and probably was about to take action, but I didn't even think and just reacted.

Maybe that's the difference, I am always relatively observant and aware of my surroundings and likely why it makes zero sense to me.

It makes no sense to me either. I and most others on this site are mostly vigilant citizens with a critically thinking mind from what I have gathered reading most of the posts.

Seriously, not joking, but unfortunately most of the world isn't built like some of us are and are just caught up in themselves. Kids, I do not fault having fun, but adults who aren't paying close attention to every child out there aren't vigilant as they should be at best and just downright negligent at worse.

I am just told that they believe that whoever was there monitoring the kid obviously bolted before the event or he was dropped off. Whatever it may be it is tragic.

I hate travel ball, but the alternative is worse. Way worse. Baseball is ruled by travel ball these days. No way around it anymore.

Years ago I was at a company party at the home of the business owner. Had about 15 people in the pool. I looked over at the water and a 2 year old child was sinking tonthe bottom with his arms up.

Kid was looking straight at me and I jumped in and pulled him out. But there was no screaming or splashing. He had been holding into the side according to the parent in the pool and slipped.

Nobody heard or saw a thing and luckily I was sitting by the pool and happened to see him right when it happened.

Watch your kids in water, bad shite happens fast.

I work from home three days a week and when I do I walk my daughter to school as it's only a few blocks from our house. It boggles my mind that there are so many young kids that walk alone. Some quite far distances. We are talking between 5 and 10 years old.

Also see young kids riding their bikes with no supervision all through the streets in our neighborhood. I have almost hit some of them in my truck as have others. I fear something bad is going to happen to one of them one day.

Or the lazy parents that put a 12 year old in charge of a 5 year old

It's a fricking constant everywhere, and thankfully due to good people bad things happen less often then they could.

Driving out of my subdivision one night, and there's a 1-2 year old standing in the street alone. No one around, no one outside. I stop and grab him and start looking around to figure out where the hell he had wandered out from. Walk up a few doors and see a house with the door wide open. Knock and ask them if they knew their child was outside, ethnicity matched that of the baby. They had no idea, had the door open while moving some boxes around. The kid was tiny though so had to be several minutes for him to make it as far as he did. Just fricking staggering to me though.
